Job description
The Maritime System Division of Leidos is seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Long Beach, MS office. In this role you will play a pivotal role in designing, prototyping, and developing sophisticated electro-mechanical systems for defense applications. This is an onsite position where you will work with a cross-functional team of engineers, technicians, and program management to take concepts into fieldable systems.
Primary Responsibilities.
- Support and/or lead the design, development, installation, and maintenance of electro-mechanical systems.
- Utilize SolidWorks to create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D engineering drawings.
- Perform fundamental structural, thermal, and tolerance analysis to ensure designs can meet and withstand environmental and operational requirements.
- Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure seamless hardware integration and design feasibility.
- Perform tasks to completion independently, be able to suggest solutions to technical problems, and serve on a design review team.
- Prepare and/or review proposed engineering change documents, test plans, and test reports.
- Work with production staff to ensure products are manufactured as designed and in a timely manner.
- Present designs and justify engineering decisions during engineering reviews both internally within the company and externally with customers and stakeholders.
Basic Qualifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an ABET-accredited engineering degree program 4+ years prior relevant experience or Master’s degree with 2+ years of prior experience.
- Requires deep understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of mechanical engineering.
- Proficiency with the SolidWorks software suite.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong problem solving and organizational skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
- Average physical mobility to move around an office and lab environment.
Preferred Qualifications.
- Hands-on experience working on electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Prior experience with HVAC systems design and/or thermal management.
- Prior experience or knowledge with unmanned maritime vehicles and associated sensors.
- Prior experience with designing systems to operate long-term in high-corrosive environments.
- Prior experience with designing structures or enclosures subject to high shock, vibration, and extreme thermal environments.
- Experience using Finite Element Analysis Tools for structural and thermal modeling.
- Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) or higher.
- Experience working in an ISO manufacturing environment.
- Experience working in PTC Windchill PLM.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
