Omdia (part of Informa TechTarget) is seeking an experienced Principal Analyst to lead our Data Center Compute research service and contribute significantly to our Data Center Networks coverage. This role requires deep technical expertise in server technologies, processors, accelerators, and data center networking infrastructure to deliver authoritative market intelligence and strategic insights to our global client base.
The successful candidate will lead comprehensive research coverage of the global data center compute market, including servers, processors (CPUs, GPUs, DPUs), accelerators, and AI infrastructure. The role involves the development, maintenance, and contribution to market forecasts, vendor competitive analysis, and market sizing models for data center compute, tracking relevant data center trends, monitoring competitive dynamics in the market, and assessing the impact of AI/ML workloads, generative AI, and high-performance computing on data center infrastructure requirements.
The role of Principal Analyst also involves presenting research at industry conferences, client briefings, webinars, and providing expert commentary to media and industry publications. Strategic consulting and advisory services for clients are another key part of the role, providing insight on data center compute and networking trends, decisions, technology roadmaps, and market opportunities.
We’re looking for an experienced analyst or data center industry professional who can provide technical credibility and deep insights to Omdia’s vendor clients. The position is suited to an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and collaborative person able to express considered and bold views through thought-provoking research and analysis to a mixed audience of technical end users through senior industry executives. Ability to quickly develop strong relationships, interpersonal skills and to effectively work as part of a global team are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver insightful research
Alongside the Data Center team, contribute to and create high quality research in the form of reports, trackers, forecasts, and presentations. Develop and test hypotheses that challenge existing beliefs within a market to provide unique insight. Use all the tools and knowledge at your disposal to produce analysis that goes beyond the descriptive to give Omdia the edge over its competition.
Market high-level industry expertise
Use your expertise and experience to define and expand an area of research. Market that expertise at a senior level within our clients and prospects. Provide a timely response to market events and offer up-to-date opinions founded on broad-based experience.
Build and maintain client relationships
Over time, and as your career progresses at Omdia and Informa TechTarget, maintain and extend your network of client relationships. Become a trusted advisor to these clients.
Ensure effective client management
Build and manage ongoing relationships with clients. Represent Omdia and Informa TechTarget, demonstrating your expertise in data center compute, as well as taking a broad view of the data center and technology ecosystem and its delivery of business outcomes. Support sales, marketing, product management, and PR teams. Participate in client-facing meetings with the sales team and add credibility to Omdia and Informa TechTarget relationships.
Expand strategic planning involvement
Offer insight to our planning meetings. Work closely with the Chief Analyst, Practice Leader, and Research Directors to drive the direction and strategy of the team. Through the understanding of client needs based on senior-level relationships, develop a customer-based point of view for new products and advisory services.
- 5-8 years of professional experience. Experience in the data center ecosystem either as an industry analyst or in the wider ecosystem, with specific experience of data center infrastructure, server technologies, compute architecture, networking
- Solid technical understanding and insight of x86, ARM, and accelerated computing architectures, including CPUs, GPUs, DPUs, FPGAs, and ASICs, and the ability to quickly form credible, distinctive, compelling, and original opinions on how aspects of these will evolve, and why.
- Quantitative research, with the ability to build, maintain, and enhance market forecasts and trackers, and present complex concepts and trends from data in a compelling manner.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex ideas.
- Strong verbal communication and presentation skills, including a personable manner and the confidence to present to, engage with, and influence executives at the highest levels of the industry.
- The ability to build and enhance a profile with industry contacts and opinion formers.
- The ability to quickly and coherently identify and communicate critical issues impacting the commercial performance of Omdia’s vendor clients across the data center ecosystem.
- Experience of working with sales and marketing teams to identify and successfully capitalize on business development opportunities.
- A proven track record of managing a workload to ensure deadlines are met and client expectations are exceeded.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Cultural awareness, as the role involves working with global clients and within a global virtual team environment.

The salary range for this role is $120k to 150k based on experience.
