Job description

Who is Shift?

At Shift, we’re business specialists dedicated to helping Australian SMEs take control of their cashflow, streamline trade terms and choose the right financial products.

We believe Australian businesses are the driving force behind our economy and are core to our communities. That’s why our business expertise, focus on relationships, and market-leading technology is at the core of everything we do. We’ve helped solve the credit and payment pain points for more than 30,000 businesses, providing over $6 billion in aggregate funding.

Our unique approach to product innovation combined with our collaborative culture means you can build your career in a supportive environment. You’ll be joining a diverse team of over 300 people who are always looking to deliver better outcomes for Australian businesses.

About the role

We're seeking a Compliance Manager for a 12-month contract in our Risk and Compliance team. Our compliance framework is built and operational – we need someone to take the reins and run with it. If you've led an AFSL compliance program end-to-end and feel confident inheriting an established framework, this role is for you.

You'll focus on AFSL governance: running the compliance committee, coordinating reporting officers, preparing quarterly compliance reports, and managing attestations through our compliance system. You'll also take on AML/CTF responsibilities as Deputy AMLCO and support the AML/CTF Transition Plan to meet AML/CTF Rule 2025.

What you'll do

  • Own the AFSL governance rhythm – serve as compliance committee secretariat, manage quarterly compliance reporting, and oversee attestation management via the ERM system
  • Coordinate reporting officers across the business to ensure compliance obligations are evidenced accurately and on time
  • Maintain the obligations register and compliance plan, mapping regulatory requirements to controls across all licences
  • Lead horizon scanning across ASIC, AUSTRAC, AFIA, AFCA and OAIC, translating regulatory changes into actionable business guidance
  • Act as Deputy AMLCO, supporting daily AML/CTF oversight and delivering on AUSTRAC reporting obligations
  • Own the reportable breach framework end-to-end, including triage, root-cause analysis, escalation, and self-reporting to ASIC
  • Prepare for and support regulatory reviews, inspections, and information requests from ASIC, AUSTRAC, and AFCA
  • Design and deliver compliance training to enhance compliance maturity across the business

What you'll bring

  • Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of an AFSL compliance framework – governance, reporting, obligations mapping, and attestation processes
  • 10+ years of progressive compliance experience in Australian financial services, including ASIC and AUSTRAC-regulated entities
  • Proven experience with compliance management systems or ERM platforms – you operate and optimise
  • Strong AML/CTF expertise, including transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and AUSTRAC engagement
  • Ability to translate complex regulations into clear, commercial, and practical guidance for non-compliance audiences
  • Credibility to prepare materials and present to committees and senior stakeholders independently
  • A talent for influencing without authority – strong coordination skills across diverse reporting officers

Key benefits

  • Collaborative teams – a flat structure means everyone can learn from colleagues and senior leaders around the business.
  • Be involved – come together with all of your colleagues every 100 days to share the product and technology roadmap and business strategy.
  • Flexible working environment – we’re headquartered in North Sydney with state-based workplaces and offer a flexible work policy.
  • Family support – industry leading 26 weeks paid parental leave.
  • Purpose built spaces within our office – designed for collaboration, brainstorming, socialising, and focused work.
  • Range of benefits supporting your physical, psychological and financial wellbeing. From a day off on your birthday to excellent end of trip facilities.
