This position provides diagnostic information to referring physicians using ultrasound as a diagnostic tool, as well as participates in the activities which occur because the Virginia Mason Ultrasound Department is a clinical training center for physicians, student interns and sonographers and is an equipment test site for international vendors. May also, under the direction of the Ultrasound manager and/or Clinic Manager, coodinate the day-to-day operations of Ultrasound to ensure efficiency, quality care and service to patients.

Qualifications

  • This position requires extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and physics.
  • The ability to use skills of reasoning and deduction to make medical diagnosis;
  • strong interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to use a computer; the ability to assist immobile or disabled patients;
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • The ability to be patient, flexible, and maintain a high standard of professional behavior.
  • This position also requires graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) ultrasound accredited program.
  • Additionally, a one year clinical internship, certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with registry exam certifications in multiple sub-specialties and 30 continuing medical education credits are required every 3 years for this position.

Preferred: A four-year college degree with a concentration in ultrasound. Certification as a Registered Vascular Technologist through ARDMS is also preferred. Upon hire, successfull RVT certification will be required within one year of employment.
