Staff Engineer, Analog Mixed-Signal IC Design - Automotive SerDes
Job description
Analog Devices (NASDAQ: ADI) designs and manufactures semiconductor products and solutions. We enable our customers to interpret the world around us by intelligently bridging the physical and digital worlds with unmatched technologies that sense, measure and connect.
Our Automotive Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link (GMSL) team is seeking a self-motivating, passionate engineer Analog or Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer focusing on the design of high-performance SerDes products in advanced CMOS technologies. Job responsibilities include IC design starting from initial specification through design and layout supervision, silicon evaluation, debugging and characterization to product introduction.
What is GMSL? GMSL is widely accepted in the automotive industry as the leading technology for in-car high-speed serial links that safely and securely transport video while minimizing the cost, weight and complexity of vehicle cable harnesses. An extensive portfolio of GMSL products is in full production, and GMSL links are used every day in millions of vehicles worldwide. GMSL provides cost effective video transport and bridging for a wide range of applications – from basic information displays and rearview cameras in mass market vehicles to the full set of safety critical cameras in autonomous vehicles, and high-resolution touch screens in high-end vehicles.
Responsibilities are
- Ownership of analog and mixed-signal circuits used in automotive SerDes products through all steps of product development cycle
- Detailed circuit design, simulations, and verification of high performance SerDes and auxiliary circuits. This includes Rx equalizers, DFEs, CDR, Tx drivers, clock generation (VCO, PLL, dividers, etc.), L/C tank oscillators, charge pumps, CMU design, and bias circuitry.
- Definition, evaluation, and development of architectures and specifications for individual circuit blocks
- Layout supervision and post-layout simulations
- Documentation and design reviews
- Lab evaluation and debug
- Interactions with cross-functional teams to define requirements and specifications. Assisting production test development
Minimum Qualifications
- BSEE/MSEE or equivalent plus 5+ years relevant experience
- The ideal candidate should have advanced knowledge of high-speed SerDes circuits including Rx equalizers, DFEs, CDR, Tx drivers, clock generation (VCO, PLL, dividers, etc.) and bias circuitry.
- Has clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, team working experience and a pro-active approach to problem solving.
- Has experience with and advanced knowledge of Cadence design, simulation, layout, and verification tools for analog and mixed-signal designs.
- Has a solid background in semiconductors, understanding the basic underlying device physics of CMOS transistors, diodes, MOM capacitors, integrated inductors and implanted resistors.
- Has an intuitive and analytical understanding of transistor-level design and possesses good, working knowledge of small signal and large signal CMOS device models.
- Has strong circuit analysis skills, recognizing potential problems due to model limitations, high frequency effects, and device temperature effects.
- Has experience characterizing and debugging mixed-signal SoCs in a lab environment. Has experience using signal generators, oscilloscopes, BERTs, logic analyzers and data acquisition systems. Python experience for automated test setups is also a plus.
- Has good intuition of package and layout parasitics and experience with extracted simulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in video protocols (DisplayPort, CSI/DSI, HDMI) and PCI Express
- Experience with analog and digital behavioral modeling, design & synthesis of digital control blocks and state machines.
- Experience with Matlab and design of DSP blocks (digital filters, decimators, etc.)
- Familiarity with automated digital design (Verilog, synthesis, place & route, DFT, STA)
- Experience leading teams and/or projects
