Role description
Arcadis' Water Management practice is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our team. This position may report to our Dallas, TX or Houston, TX office.
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will utilize your expertise and technical knowledge to develop, lead, and support projects related to water management, coastal flood resiliency, and general infrastructure design. You may also perform dam and levee safety inspections and support structural and geotechnical disciplines with civil engineering-specific tasks.
Role accountabilities
In this role, you will be responsible for the development of project layouts, geometrics, and survey control; grading and drainage design; subsurface utility coordination and relocation; pavements, ground improvement measures, and slope stabilization systems; and erosion and sediment control measures. Project examples include demolition, rehabilitation, and/or new construction of levees, floodwalls, waterways, reservoirs, locks, dams, drainage systems, and roadways.
You will be responsible for producing well-thought-out technical designs and drawing packages needed to control project construction and deliver critical solutions for our clients. Therefore, you must develop an awareness of the interconnections of the systems being designed to help manage the effects of design development and the impacts of change.
Additional responsibilities include
- Preparing engineering reports, design calculations, design drawings, and contract specifications per U.S. Army Corps of Engineers design publications, federal and/or state agencies, or international equivalent
- Overseeing the preparation of construction quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates
- Assembling procurement documents, issuing addenda during solicitation of bids/tender, preparing conformed construction contract documents, and following a structured quality control process
- Overseeing the work of CADD Drafters and junior engineers
- Coordinating and collaborating with other disciplines and delivering integrated designs and construction documents
- Mentoring junior staff, providing technical review of project deliverables
- Identifying new business opportunities and developing client relationships
- Traveling (up to 20%) for site visits, client/stakeholder meetings, etc.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- 10 years of experience with large heavy civil infrastructure projects. Roadway design, site development, and utility design experience are transferrable to this type of work.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) license or the ability to obtain a license within 12 months of start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing heavy civil infrastructure projects from conceptual level planning to the preparation of detailed engineering designs and construction specifications.
- Experience preparing 3D models in either Bentley® OpenRoads Designer, or AutoDesk® Civil 3D
- Disciplined approach to file management and quality process documentation
