What will you do as an Operator (Junior)?

The Operator (Junior) is responsible for product movements on site & to ensure efficient, and safe 'arrival to departure' process as per policies, standards and procedures. This will contribute to Terminal Lesedi's goal of being the leading tank terminal operator by handling all products with care and excellent service to our Customers.

What do we expect from you as an Operator (Junior)?

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Completed Chemical Operations  NQF2 will be advantageous
  • N6 Engineering qualification e.g. N6 in Mechanical Engineering / Chemical Engineering or the equivalent of a NQF level 5 in Operations Management (or currently studying towards)
  • 1-2 Years relevant experience in Chemical Operations
  • 2 or more years in a Petrochemical environment
  • Proven experience/knowledge of operational support systems and SHEQ is necessary and will link to industry experience

Your core responsibilities are:

  • Maintains good housekeeping and cleanliness during each movement (check before leaving) and by cleaning work areas on a daily basis.
  • Responsible to load, lift and transport drums and other heavy equipment by use of forklift as is safe and per instructions
  • Ensure compliance with all safety rules and regulations at all times, conducting a Last Minute Risk Assessment prior to each task ensuring the area and task is safe to proceed.  Adhere to ISO procedures when carrying out operational activities.
  • Ensure the correct use and maintenance of personal protective equipment at all times, reporting any defects to Supervisor / Shift Leader. Ensure utilize PPE in accordance with instructions, manufacturers guidance.
  • Report faulty equipment or any deviation from normal working practices (unsafe acts or conditions) to Supervisor. Follow up to ensure suitable addressed.
  • Report incidents, near misses, improvements with procedures or infrastructure to Supervisor / Shift Leader.
  • Responsible to operate fire equipment on site in accordance with the emergency plan and the instruction of the incident commander and if safe to do so.
  • Ensure and maintain clear communication by radio at all times (English communication).
  • Responsible to perform routine execution of the road, and pipeline operations under the guidance of the Shift leader, all activities are performed as per procedures and work instructions, and only if trained and signed competent for the task. 
  • Responsible to perform nonstandard activities under the guidance of Senior Operator and Shift leader
