The Team You’ll Work With: The Mayor’s Office of Appointments (MOA) is responsible for helping the Mayor in identifying and selecting candidates to serve as commissioners and other senior-level roles, as well as individuals to serve on more than 200 boards and commissions vital to the operation and growth of the City. MOA serves a critical role by providing talent recruitment support for the Administration, helping to build a strategy to create a sustainable and diverse talent pipeline for the Administration’s senior leadership positions.

The Problems You’ll Solve: The Chief of Staff will

  • Serve as a senior operational and strategic partner to the Director of Appointments, helping manage the day-to-day functioning of the office and drive execution across major workstreams and priorities.
  • Lead a portfolio of executive leadership support and development initiatives for Commissioners and senior administration officials, including training, onboarding, convening leadership programming, and ongoing support structures designed to strengthen management capacity.
  • Develop and oversee the office’s internal leadership development strategy, including mentorship programs, fellowship and cohort models, affinity and community-building initiatives, and other efforts aimed at strengthening leadership pathways and organizational culture across city government.
  • Build and maintain systems, processes, and tracking tools that improve coordination, accountability, and long-term operational capacity across the office and its growing portfolio of work.

About You

  • You have excellent communication, writing, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • You have strong political judgment and discretion; able to navigate complex relationships and fast-moving situations thoughtfully, professionally, and calmly under pressure.
  • You are an excellent operational leader and systems builder. Able to build strong processes, improve coordination, and help turn new ideas into sustainable programs and systems.
  • You are detail oriented with excellent organizational, prioritization, and multitasking ability.
  • You are comfortable moving between big-picture planning and hands-on execution, whether that means helping shape long-term leadership initiatives, preparing for sensitive conversations and decisions, managing follow-through on key priorities, or jumping in on smaller day-to-day tasks as needed in a fast-moving environment.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience.

  • Do you have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university?
  • Do you have an associate degree from an accredited college or university along with two (2) years of experience with administrative, analytic, coordinative, supervisory or liaison responsibilities?
  • Do you have a four-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent approved by a state's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization along with four (4) years of experience as described in question "2" above?
  • Do you have a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that described in questions "1," "2," and/or "3" above?
