We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant or a Credentialed Veterinary Technician to join our team at VCA Animal Hospital of Cotati!

This position is currently part-time with the opportunity to become full-time.

Location: 331 E Cotati Ave., Cotati, CA. 94931.

Summary of the position and experience: Support and assist Veterinarians and all hospital team members through high-quality care of patients, cleaning of facilities, client communication and education. Under established guidelines, complete more complex patient treatments, laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging and other animal care functions and tasks involved in patient care and operations.

As a Credentialed Veterinary Technician, perform job responsibilities as outlined by state practice act and hospital guidelines.

We are offering competitive compensation: $20-30 per hour, depending on experience and credentials.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Graduate of AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program (preferred)
  • 1 or more year(s) of prior experience working in a veterinary hospital.

Current Skills

  • Perform complex patient care including, but not limited to medication administration (SQ, IV, oral, topical, IM).
  • Communication with team and with clients (including client education).
  • Safely and responsibly position pets for diagnostic imaging and obtaining diagnostic-quality images.
  • Assist Veterinarians and other assistants in anesthetized or sedated patient surgeries and procedures.
  • Compassionately handle anxious or fearful patients.
  • Fill prescriptions based on hospital guidelines and state regulations.
  • Knowledge of veterinary terminology and ability to document medical records.

Physical Capabilities and Working Conditions

  • Hearing must be sufficient to hear coworkers and pets (growling dog, etc.) in a moderate to high noise level environment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, and move) up to 40 pounds. Lifting higher weights requires requesting assistance from another Associate.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment
  • Visual acuity sufficient to complete accurate records, recognize people and animals, as well as understand written directions. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision.
  • Occasionally exposed to airborne particles and illness from patients and chemicals related to animal care, cleanliness, and office equipment.
  • Environment where pets are present. Any allergies to animals must be controlled by medication.
