Summary
The Field Service Technician will perform, repair, and maintain water mains, hydrants, isolation valves and appurtenances at multiple locations throughout the system. Repair and maintain tools and other equipment associated with such installations and repairs. Effectively identify problems as they occur and take appropriate steps to solve them or refer to more complex issues to others.Job Responsibilities
• Operate portable cranes, vactor truck, construction power tools, pneumatic tools, set up dewatering equipment, rigging equipment or brick truck for repairing water mains, isolation valves and structures
• Perform basic construction practices
• Maintain accurate records of jobs performed including confined space reports, and route sheets or use measuring devices for structure locations and MISS DIGG requests
• Read and interpret section maps, meter site drawings, and gate books
• Properly operate all sizes of system gate valves ranging from 4-inch to 96-inch
• Work in confined spaces including meter vaults, gate wells, and valve vaults to perform maintenance
• Perform testing assesses operability of valves
• Work in high traffic areas safely, and properly set up traffic control devices as needed, troubleshoot various system issues and resolve
• Perform installation of equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions and make repairs as needed
• Troubleshoot, remove, and install equipment in underground structures
• Communicate clearly and effectively with leadership team members and other groups to keep them informed of maintenance and repair work
• Perform inspections, battery checks, and battery replacements as needed or participate on Hydrant Crew
• Provide on the job training
• Work outside in inclement weather
• Follow security and safety policies and procedures in carrying out work duties
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Drive a motor vehicle on all terrain
• Requirement to work different shift hours and be on call to respond to emergencies
• Perform yard duties to provide tools and supplies at multiple locations
• Complete scheduled Preventative Maintenance on tools and equipment
• Maintain vehicle inventory
• Perform related work duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience
At the time of application, applicant must:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Reasonable knowledge of tools, methods, materials and practices used in repairing heavy machinery and equipment including some familiarity with methods and equipment used in moving heavy objects
- Meet all the requirements to advance to Field Services Technician Level 2 within four (4) years of level 1 designation
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) with an “N” air brake endorsement (Required to obtain within 1 year of employment).
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- One (1) year of experience in repairing and assembling watermains and valves preferred
Other Requirements
- The ability to drive a motor vehicle on all terrain
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing per GLWA and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
- S5 Certification required if hired at Level two (2)

This position requires the ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, work in confined spaces, elevated locations and descend underground, lift a minimum of ninety-five (95) pounds, walk, stand, or work for long periods of time, demonstrate normal color perception, hear audible alarms, detect abnormal equipment sounds, visually inspect equipment and processes at any time of the day or night. Employees will be required to wear respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment; perform in confined space, elevated and underground work. Employees will also be required to pass a bio-mechanical physical and vision test, yearly baseline physical and fit test for respirator/Self Contained Breathing Apparatus. While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly required to use hands to handle, feel or operate equipment.
Environmental Working Requirements:
Work is performed in the shop and field. Work may be performed near open water, systems with hazardous chemicals that are acidic, highly corrosive, heat producing and potentially explosive. Work may be performed in confined spaces, hazardous areas that require respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE), and under slippery and wet conditions.
