Job Description
Experience
- 2 years of experience in pediatric exercise/physical activity program
- Training in motivational interviewing and patient-centered counseling techniques
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in healthcare setting
- American College of Sports Medicine
Education
- Bachelor’s degree and nationally recognized exercise certification or master’s degree in related field
Certification Summary
- BLS within 30 days of hire
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of exercise assessments and protocols
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven interpersonal skills, including ability to function in interdisciplinary environment
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under deadlines, with multiple tasks, and with individuals representing all levels within the organization
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Job Responsibilities
- Evaluates patient exercise behaviors, conducts exercise tolerance assessments, and develops individualized exercise plans.
- Utilizes patient-centered education and counseling techniques to engage patients and their families in exercise plans and goals.
- Develops and implements patient education tools for weight management.
- Participates as key member of interdisciplinary medical team during weight management outpatient visits.
- Assists with moderation of quarterly bariatric support groups.
- Completes documentation, meeting standards for content, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Participates as member of the research team, collecting data and providing guidance on physical activity research opportunities.
- Serves as mentor/resource to interns and staff, providing orientation, in-services, and clinical guidance.
- Collaborates with Strong4Life staff to improve physical activity messaging and protocols.
- Participates in development and evaluation of outpatient pediatric obesity program.
- Identifies patient/family need for services from ancillary departments and provides follow-up.
- Collaborates with sports clubs, gyms, and community resources around the state to provide resources for patient population.
- Maintains knowledge of trends and issues related to childhood obesity and behavior change theory, integrating concepts into practice.
- Demonstrates knowledge of exercise testing and body composition measurements.
- Communicates with patients and families between clinic visits to support behavior changes.
