Job description

Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.

Purpose

Oversee project engineering activities in alignment with the site business plan, ensuring efficient execution and strict compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Lead and coordinate construction, electrical, and mechanical project initiatives with a focus on sustainable capital development, driving long-term value through environmentally responsible design, resource-efficient execution, and lifecycle-oriented asset management

Essential Duties

  • Prepare and deliver detailed reports on project performance, including metrics on safety, cost, and schedule, to senior management.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project execution plans and business readiness plans to ensure smooth transition from design to operational phases.
  • Prepare budgets, cost estimates, and capital investment documentation (e.g., Investment Review Packages - IRP) to support funding approvals and financial oversight.
  • Manage and supervise a multidisciplinary team of engineers and supervisors, providing guidance, performance feedback, and technical leadership.
  • Oversee construction, electrical, and mechanical projects with a focus on sustainable capital development, ensuring long-term value creation and environmental stewardship.
  • Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and services aligned with project schedules.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement and change management activities to support project adoption and operational integration.
  • Conduct engineering reviews of drawings and all related technical data received from consultants, contractors, or suppliers, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements

Training & Experience

Knowledge

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/mining/civil engineering. Preferred knowledge of civil drafting software AutoCAD, Knowledge mining operations and projects, Proven track record of supervising a team, Knowledge of the relevant statutory regulations for Health, Safety and Technical compliance.

Technical Skill

Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Advanced communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Advanced computer literacy skills - MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) The ability to accurately give an account of information pertaining to the performance of projects.
