The Richardson School (TRS), a MyPath Company, is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Assistant to support the daily operations, safety, and upkeep of our school facility and grounds. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-functioning environment for students, staff, and visitors in accordance with state and school standards.
Job Summary
We are looking for a dependable and skilled Maintenance Assistant to support building operations, grounds upkeep, and equipment maintenance at our school campus. This role includes routine cleaning, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, seasonal grounds care, and coordination with outside vendors when needed. The Maintenance Assistant plays a key role in creating a safe, supportive, and well-maintained environment that aligns with TRS’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance & Repair
Respond to and complete maintenance work orders as assigned, assessing issues and completing repairs within scope.
Perform routine internal maintenance such as painting, wall repair, unclogging drains and toilets, changing light bulbs, and minor plumbing and electrical tasks.
Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of building systems and equipment.
Assist with monitoring and basic maintenance of HVAC, boiler, and air conditioning systems; notify leadership when service exceeds internal expertise.
Ensure required fire inspections and safety-related maintenance tasks are completed on schedule.
Grounds & Safety
Assist with seasonal grounds care including mowing, snow removal, leaf collection, and general outdoor upkeep.
Maintain roads, parking lots, sidewalks, and building entrances to ensure safe access and egress.
Monitor cleanliness and safety throughout the facility and report concerns to the Day School Director.
Tools, Equipment & Vendors
Properly use, maintain, and store hand tools, power tools, lawn and garden equipment, and maintenance machinery.
Assist with maintaining school equipment, appliances, and vehicles.
Support special projects and assist with coordinating and overseeing work completed by external contractors as directed
Communication & Teamwork
Maintain positive, respectful, and collaborative working relationships with students, staff, and vendors.
Participate in on-call rotation and assist with department coverage as needed.
Attend required meetings and remain current with school updates, policies, and procedures.
Uphold confidentiality and comply with all company policies, safety standards, and transportation guidelines.
Schedule
A part-time, hourly role focused on delivering hands-on maintenance support to ensure safe, functional, and welcoming environments for residents and staff.
Primarily first-shift hours with required flexibility for emergency calls.
Involves working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions

Qualifications
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
Minimum one year of maintenance or facilities experience
Preferred experience in carpentry, painting, basic plumbing, electrical work or mechanical repair
Required Skills & Attributes
Ability to maintain a calm and effective demeanor in emergency and stressful situations.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
Ability to read and interpret manuals, instructions, and blueprints
Ability to lift up to 80 lbs and work on ladders, in tight spaces, and outdoors
Additional Requirements
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must possess a valid Driver's License and have an acceptable driving record.
Willingness to work in varied environments, including exposure to cleaning products, tools, and seasonal weather
