This highly visible role is responsible for delivering play-by-play coverage, producing compelling audio and digital content, and enhancing the overall fan experience through storytelling and multimedia engagement. The Director of Broadcasting serves as a key representative of both Learfield and the university, working closely with athletics personnel, corporate partners, media affiliates, and internal stakeholders to produce high-quality broadcasts and content that support the university's brand and business objectives.
Success in this role requires exceptional communication skills, strong broadcast and production expertise, attention to detail, creativity, and a passion for collegiate athletics. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and is capable of balancing live event responsibilities with content creation, partner support, and strategic collaboration across multiple functions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Broadcast & Content Production
- Serve as the primary play-by-play broadcaster for assigned athletic programs, including pregame, in-game, and postgame coverage.
- Conduct interviews with coaches, student-athletes, and other stakeholders for use across audio, digital, social, and emerging media platforms.
- Host and produce coaches' shows, feature programming, podcasts, and other audio content as assigned.
- Develop and produce original features and storytelling content that enhance fan engagement and support university athletics.
- Provide voice-over services for promotional content, sponsorship activations, and marketing initiatives.
- Ensure thorough preparation, research, fact verification, and content accuracy for all broadcasts and productions.
- Maintain a digital archive of broadcasts and other audio content.
Broadcast Operations & Event Support
- Coordinate and oversee game-day broadcast operations and production crews.
- Work closely with affiliate stations, broadcast partners, athletics personnel, and Learfield stakeholders to ensure successful event execution.
- Assist with planning, scheduling, and production logistics for broadcasts and special projects.
- Support the integration of audio, video, digital, and social media efforts across the property.
- Assist with property and university events as requested.
Partnership & Business Support
- Collaborate with athletics and Learfield teams to create content that promotes ticket sales, fan engagement, and university branding initiatives.
- Support sponsorship activation efforts through creative content, branded features, and partner integrations.
- Assist sales teams with presentations, client meetings, research, and sponsorship-related content development as requested.
- Help strengthen relationships between Learfield, the university, athletic department leadership, coaches, marketing teams, alumni organizations, and other key stakeholders.
Leadership & Administration
- Coordinate the activities of broadcast personnel and game-day staff as assigned.
- Assist property leadership with annual planning, budget forecasting, and operational initiatives.
- Foster positive working relationships across athletics, Learfield, broadcast partners, and university departments.
- Support training, development, and knowledge-sharing efforts related to broadcasting and content production.
- Ensure compliance with all Learfield policies, university requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five (5) or more years of play-by-play broadcasting experience at the NCAA Division I, professional sports, or equivalent level.
- Demonstrated experience producing live sports broadcasts, audio programming, and multimedia content.
- Strong knowledge of sports broadcasting, media production, and storytelling techniques.
- Experience creating content for digital and social media platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required by athletic schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Broadcasting, Journalism, Sports Media, or a related field.
- Experience working within collegiate athletics, professional sports, media organizations, or multimedia rights environments.
- Knowledge of broadcast engineering, audio systems, and production workflows.
- Experience supporting sponsorship integrations, branded content initiatives, and partner activations.
- Familiarity with NCAA athletics and multimedia rights operations.
