The Radiation Oncology Chief Therapist, in collaboration with the Manager/Director of Cancer Services, performs according to the policies, philosophy and objectives of the Radiation Oncology Department and the hospital. Works cooperatively with the department and other services to create a system of high quality health care.Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Under the supervision of the Radiation Oncology Manager /Director of Cancer Services, coordinates radiation therapist assignments. Collaborating with all functional areas to ensure a smooth flow of patient care.
- Responsible for overseeing the administration of radiation therapy treatments and simulations as prescribed and instructed by the radiation oncologist in accordance with the established standards.
- Provides direct daily oversight of all aspects of clinical treatment schedules across two sites of service.
- Effectively manages daily staffing requirements for Radiation treatments, and adjusts staffing as needed. Addresses fluctuating workloads based on patient flow and physician schedules
- Assists in Managing the triage of emergent cases, coordinates all on-call staff scheduling and negotiates scheduling of patients with other care team members.
- Orients and coordinates training of staff on new procedures/equipment and keeping staff up to date on competencies.
- In collaboration with the Director of Medical Physics, assist in providing on-site and remote training/coaching for the dosimetrist team; develop/improve processes to increase efficiency between dosimetrist and radiation therapist teams.
- Maintains staff by orienting, and training employees
- Applies process improvement methods and techniques; assists in data collection; identifies processes for improvement in daily work; and assists in education of new employees in the team process.
- Responsible for maintaining and ordering radiation treatment supplies and immobilization devices. May be required to work with vendors to organize training sessions for staff.
- Collaborates with others to develop, revise, implement and maintain policies and procedures pertinent to external beam treatments, brachytherapy, new programs, and personnel.
- Manages team during equipment failures and notifies patients as well as all functional areas of the department.
- Ensures radiation therapist competence and compliance with mandatory annual competencies, including, but not limited to: Specific machine techniques and procedures, department policies and procedures, and other activities and techniques that arise as practices change.
- Participates in all departmental Quality Assurance and Improvement committees and initiatives.
- Works with Manager and Director to assess financial resources, operational budget, and capital expenditures, related to therapist staffing
- Maintains and demonstrates cooperation and responsiveness to all staff members.
- Utilizes professional problem-solving and negotiation skills to manage conflict.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and build consensus with cross-functional teams including staff at all levels of the organization, including both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Ability to foster the integration of cross-functional teams to achieve business goals, leading by inclusive management style, open communications, diplomacy, and solution-based problem-solving.
- Attends regularly scheduled Management/Leadership meetings.
- Responsible for maintaining compliance and participating in all readiness related to: ACR CMS, DPH and JCERT
- Possesses knowledge of scheduling and billing procedures proficient in EPIC and ARIA
- Understands the function of equipment, accessories, and treatment methods.
- Maintains current licensure information on all therapists.
- Participates in performance appraisal of all therapists.
- Demonstrates initiative to diagnose problems, attain needed research, and provide solutions.
- Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles, Mission Statement, and Goals to daily activities.
- Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies.
- Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Clinic.

- Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved school for therapeutic radiologic technology and/or registered in RTT with a current valid Massachusetts license or equivalent education and experience.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must be registered by the ARRT and hold a valid Mass. License.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: In the absence of any of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.
Experience: 5 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist and 2 or more years of administrative experience preferred.
Pay Range:
$115,000.00 USD - $150,000.00 USDThe pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
