POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Supervisor Aquatic Operations, is responsible for the general maintenance, repair and cleaning of Aquatic Facilities.
MAJOR TASKS
- Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks for the aquatics maintenance program, requiring proficiency in pool related plumbing, maintenance, chemical treatment, and water testing; ensures aquatics facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition.
- Ensures that pool systems operate in accordance with mandated requirements. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, pool heaters, pumps, motors, chlorination equipment, chemical feed system, storage tanks, and pool fittings and valves.
- Responds to calls for service when required; assesses maintenance needs and takes corrective action or initiates work orders for appropriate support and ensures timely completion.
- Maintains records of pool testing results and actions/adjustments taken; documents general maintenance activities.
- Maintains documentation for winter ice and snow removal, accident reporting, cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Assists with the coordination of maintenance, renovation of aquatics facilities; maintains pool plans, technical specifications, and other maintenance or construction history on aquatics facilities.
- Performs daily checks of HVAC equipment and reports any issues found.
- Performs daily work orders as assigned, utilizing the computerized maintenance software information system, as directed.
- Performs custodial tasks within aquatics facilities and grounds as assigned.
- Keeps walkways, driveways and grounds clean of snow and debris as assigned.
- Performs Facility Maintenance such as but not limited to painting, replace ceiling tiles, unplug water closets and drains, move equipment and other minor maintenance as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- Secondary School graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated general math proficiency
- Must have a mechanical aptitude and experience in janitorial services
Skills/Abilities
- Must possess basic working knowledge of building and pool systems
- Must be capable in basic chemistry & mathematical skills to perform essential calculations for pool operations
- Must be capable of reporting, both in writing and verbally, on mechanical system conditions and/or problems
- Must be capable of issuing, reporting and accurately comprehending written/oral information and instructions
- Must be reliable and capable of performing routine work with a minimum of supervision
- Must be able to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent
- Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
- Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must demonstrate an adequate ability to operate and maintain equipment related to a commercial pool facility within the probationary period
- Must complete the Certified Pool and Spa Operator certification within 6 months of hire
- Must be willing to work shifts
- Must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
- Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
- May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (uncertified)
