Pallet Auditor
Role Outline
To manage and coordinate sites pallet operations, ensuring accurate tracking, recovery, and compliance across all sites. The role supports pallet exchange processes, customer agreements, audits, and reporting to maintain operational efficiency and reduce outstanding balances and "making DHL a great place to work".
Key Responsibilities
- Pallet Exchange Management
- Lead the national pallet exchange process and drive the recovery of outstanding balances across all sites.
- Develop and implement recovery strategies aligned to business targets and contractual obligations
- Approve and coordinate transport requirements for pallet collections and returns.
- Resolve escalated pallet disputes with customers, internal teams, and CHEP.
- Customer & Agreement Support:
- Oversee the creation, updating, and compliance of CHEP agreements for new and existing customers.
- Lead customer engagements regarding pallet balances, root cause issues, and long‑term recovery plans.
- Strengthen governance and ensure all sites operate according to agreement terms.
- Auditing & Compliance:
- Own the national pallet audit programme and ensure each site is audited within the defined 12‑month cycle.
- Analyse audit findings, validate reconciliation reports, and drive corrective action plans.
- Ensure accurate comparison of loading plans vs pallets in trade and address discrepancies with customers
- Ensure full compliance with CHEP, DHL, and regulatory standards—including Health & Safety.
- System & Reporting:
- Ensure national accuracy, integrity, and utilisation of GLS and any other pallet management systems.
- Develop and deliver monthly and quarterly performance reports, including trends, risks, and strategic insights.
- Drive continuous improvement and automation opportunities within reporting and tracking processes.
- Maintain full access rights and ensure sites adhere to proper system governance.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Lead weekly operational sessions with pallet controllers and site leads to resolve issues and set priorities.
- Participate in monthly strategic meetings with the Pallet Lead and senior management.
- Conduct regular site visits to assess compliance, provide coaching, resolve escalations, and support operational improvement.
- Build strong partnerships with CHEP, customers, operations, finance, and transport teams.
- Reduction of national outstanding pallet balances in line with agreed recovery targets.
- 100% completion of site audits within the required 12‑month cycle.
- Accuracy and integrity of GLS data and pallet reconciliation.
- Customer satisfaction and contractual compliance with all CHEP agreements.
- Improved operational compliance across all sites (audit findings closed within SLA).
- Timely delivery of monthly and quarterly pallet performance reporting.
Qualifications/ Skills/Competencies/Experiences
- Matric
- More than 3 Years Operational experience will be a distinct advantage
- Strong analytical capability for audits, reconciliations, and system data validation.
- Deep knowledge of CHEP exchange processes and pallet management standards.
- Understanding of logistics operations, FMCG flow, and supply chain dependencies.
- Problem-solving and proactive approach to operational challenges
- Ability to analyse complex problems and design practical, sustainable solutions.
- Enforcement of Health and Safety procedures and identify hazards
- Analytical ability for audit and reconciliation processes
- Proficiency in GLS and pallet management systems
- Strong organizational and planning capability.
- Ability to function on a strategic level
- Ability to work under pressure in fast‑changing environments.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Willingness to undertake additional responsibilities when required.
