The Team
Part of Engineering Enablement in Engineering Platforms, the Developer Experience team exists to unlock the full potential of every engineer at SEEK. We craft tools, systems and experiences that aim to reduce friction across the delivery journey, so teams can move from idea to production faster, learn sooner, and focus more on delivering value.
We're looking for someone with:
- A product mindset for internal tools, you treat internal platforms like consumer products, prioritising internal developer experience and validating solutions with fellow engineers;
- Empathy-driven problem solving, you're genuinely bothered by engineering friction and tedious tasks, and you naturally look for ways to fix pain points you see others experiencing;
- Systems thinking, you think beyond the task at hand, can identify bottlenecks and articulate the ripple effect of improvements across the engineering org;
- Future thinking, you’re happy working at the frontier of the fast-evolving space of AI augmented engineering and are excited to help shape the way SEEK does software engineering during this pivotal industry transformation.
As a Staff Engineer at SEEK, you will set the technical direction and raise the engineering bar across cross-functional squads. You will be a trusted technical authority — shaping architecture, driving best practices, and ensuring systems are reliable, scalable, and fit for the future. Working within SEEK's APAC matrix structure, you will collaborate with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Data Engineers, and multidisciplinary squad members across the Candidate, Hirer, and Platform domains. You will lead technical outcomes end-to-end, from architecture decisions through to production, and champion a culture of engineering excellence. Beyond delivery, you will actively grow the capability of engineers around you - mentoring, modelling best-practice behaviour, and contributing to SEEK's broader communities of practice. This is a role for a technically deep, influential engineer who is excited to shape how SEEK builds world-class technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical design and delivery of complex, cloud-first software solutions
- Shape and evolve golden paths, self-service tooling, and internal platforms so teams can ship safely and quickly without reinventing the wheel.
- Define and uplift engineering standards (patterns, guardrails, templates, and docs) so the easy way to build is also the right way
- Drive platform health improvements to ensure systems are reliable, resilient, and performant
- Guide and mentor engineers at multiple levels, lifting technical capability across squads
- Champion secure coding practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile delivery rituals
- Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents, providing operational and on-call support
- Represent DevEx and platform engineering in SEEK’s communities of practice and across APAC - advocating for measurable improvements to how we build software.
Skills and experience
- Proven experience building and maintaining software in two or more modern programming languages
- Deep expertise in cloud-first application design, development, and support (AWS preferred)
- Strong background in CI/CD practices, Design Patterns, Data Modelling, and API development
- Demonstrated experience with TDD, BDD, Clean Code, and secure coding practices
- Experience leading technical outcomes within cross-functional software delivery teams
- Track record of mentoring engineers and sharing knowledge to grow team capability
At SEEK we offer:
- Tailored career development planning
- Support of flexible working, including a mix of office and work from home days depending on your role
- Annual Performance Bonus Plan
- Paid and unpaid leave benefits including Personal Flexi Days as well as the opportunity to purchase additional leave
- The opportunity to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per financial year
At SEEK, we are passionate about fostering a culture of inclusion and wellbeing that embraces and values the diversity of our people. We are a purpose driven business that works with heart.
We know teams with diverse ideas, experiences and perspectives are more creative and are critical to ensuring effective delivery and innovating to enable our future success. As such, we welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds and life experiences, especially as they relate to gender, sexual identity, culture, faith, disability and life stages. If you have the skills, curiosity and an adaptable mindset but don't meet every responsibility or qualification listed in this advertisement, please still get in touch with us.
