What will your role be?
We are seeking an experienced Safety Engineer specializing in trackside railway signalling systems, with a strong focus on Interlocking (IXL) and Radio Block Centre (RBC) applications. The role supports project delivery activities across generic and application engineering, ensuring compliance with CENELEC safety standards and the safe integration, verification, and validation of signalling solutions in operational railway environments.
The role involves the following activities:
- Contribute to the implementation of the Functional Safety Management Plan (FSMP) at project level
- Support compliance with EN 50126 / EN 50128 / EN 50129 / EN 50159
- Participate in safety governance, including safety reviews, audits, and assessments
- Develop and maintain safety documentation for IXL (Interlocking) system and RBC (ETCS Level 2/3 Radio Block Centres)
- Allocate and trace safety requirements from system level to application level
- Support hazard identification (PHA, FHA) and risk analysis
- Contribute to SIL allocation and justification
- Support and/or perform safety verification activities, including Requirements verification and Design and application data reviews
- Contribute to validation activities for IXL and RBC in lab and site environments
- Ensure traceability between hazards, requirements, and test evidence
What are we looking for in you? Experience and competencies
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Railway Engineering, Systems Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years in railway signalling, with strong exposure to IXL (interlocking systems) and ETCS / RBC systems
- Proven experience in functional safety within railway projects (not only product development)
- Strong knowledge of CENELEC standards (EN 50126, 50128, 50129, 50159) and ETCS architecture (especially Level 2)
- Experience in Hazard analysis (PHA, FHA, FMECA), Safety requirement specification and traceability and Safety case preparation
Soft skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage interfaces and multidisciplinary teams
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Structured, rigorous, and quality-oriented approach
Languages:
- Italian (Fluent)
- English (fluent, oral and written)
