Staff Scientist, Advanced Cryo Workflows – Asia Pacific

As part of the Materials & Structural Analysis Division, the Staff Scientist, Advanced Cryo Workflows will play a critical role in supporting the adoption and successful implementation of advanced cryo-electron microscopy workflows across Asia Pacific.
This is a highly visible, customer-facing role that combines scientific expertise, workflow development, customer engagement, and commercial support. Working closely with customers, sales teams, application scientists, product management, and R&D, you will help accelerate customer success, support strategic pre-sales engagements, identify emerging workflow needs, and contribute to the evolution of innovative cryo imaging solutions.
The successful candidate will serve as a regional technical authority and trusted scientific advisor throughout the customer journey—from opportunity development and technical evaluation through workflow adoption and long-term customer success. By acting as a bridge between customers and internal teams, you will help ensure customer requirements are translated into practical workflow improvements, product enhancements, and stronger scientific outcomes.

Customer Success & Technology Adoption
- Support adoption and successful implementation of advanced cryo-electron microscopy workflows across Asia Pacific.
- Partner with strategic customers, key opinion leaders, and leading research institutes to enable scientific success.
- Provide expert guidance on workflow optimization, experimental design, and best practices.
- Support complex customer challenges and coordinate with internal stakeholders to drive timely and effective resolution.
- Build long-term customer relationships that strengthen confidence, satisfaction, and advocacy.
- Identify workflow bottlenecks and opportunities to improve usability, reproducibility, and customer outcomes.
Commercial & Pre-Sales Support
- Partner with Sales Specialists, Account Managers, NanoPort teams, and Business Unit stakeholders to support strategic opportunities across Asia Pacific.
- Act as a trusted scientific advisor during customer evaluations, workflow discussions, demonstrations, and technical consultations.
- Help customers understand the scientific value and applicability of advanced cryo workflows to their research objectives.
- Support opportunity qualification, technical positioning, competitive differentiation, and adoption planning.
- Contribute to demonstration strategies, proof-of-concept activities, and customer success plans.
- Provide scientific and technical expertise throughout the customer decision-making process to improve confidence and accelerate successful adoption.
Scientific & Technical Leadership
- Serve as a recognized technical resource for advanced cryo imaging applications and workflows.
- Support field teams on technically demanding opportunities and customer discussions.
- Evaluate workflow performance and identify opportunities to improve robustness, reproducibility, and user experience.
- Develop and deliver technical presentations, workshops, training materials, application notes, and workflow guidance.
- Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific at conferences, workshops, customer events, and scientific meetings.
- Maintain awareness of emerging scientific trends, customer requirements, and competitive developments.
Voice of Customer & Product Collaboration
- Capture customer feedback, emerging scientific requirements, and workflow challenges.
- Partner closely with Product Management, Applications, Engineering, and R&D teams to communicate customer needs and prioritize improvements.
- Support evaluation of new capabilities, workflows, and technology introductions.
- Contribute to workflow validation, field readiness activities, and best-practice development.
- Help establish scalable workflow solutions that can be deployed broadly across the customer base.
Internal Enablement
- Mentor and support regional application scientists and commercial teams.
- Deliver technical training and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Foster collaboration between commercial, service, product, and development organizations.
- Contribute to building technical capability across the Asia Pacific region. --- REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD with 4+ years of relevant experience, Master's degree with 8+ years of experience, or Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Degree in Structural Biology, Biophysics, Cell Biology, Materials Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong experience with electron microscopy, cryogenic workflows, advanced imaging techniques, or related scientific instrumentation.
- Demonstrated success in customer-facing scientific, applications, or technical support roles.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Proven ability to collaborate across functions and geographic regions.
- Willingness to travel up to 60% across Asia Pacific and occasionally internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cryo-electron microscopy, cryo sample preparation, tomography, correlative workflows, or related technologies.
- Experience supporting advanced research workflows in academia, government laboratories, or industry.
- Familiarity with technology adoption, workflow development, or new product introduction activities.
- Experience working directly with leading scientific customers and key opinion leaders.
- Scientific publications, conference presentations, or recognized expertise within the microscopy community.
- Additional Asian language skills are advantageous. --- SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE
