He whakamārama  te tūranga mahi | About the role 
 

At Watercare, we’re committed to protecting and enhancing the environment for future generations. We’re looking for a Data Analyst or Environmental Scientist to join our Environmental Care team and help us deliver on that commitment. 

In this role, you’ll play a key part in managing our environmental compliance obligations and improving the performance of Auckland’s wastewater network. You’ll combine data analysis with environmental insight, helping to inform decisions that protect our waterways and communities. 
 

Key responsibilities include: 
 

  • Managing compliance with the Network Discharge Consent (NDC), including interpreting consent requirements and coordinating compliance activities across the wastewater network 
  • Coordinating environmental monitoring, data collection and reporting programmes 
  • Preparing monthly, annual, and ad hoc reports on network and environmental performance 
  • Analysing wastewater overflow data, identifying trends, and improving reporting systems and methodologies 
  • Providing environmental and scientific advice to operational, planning, and asset management teams 
  • Supporting incident response, including environmental impact assessments, regulatory notifications, and investigations 
  • Contributing to the Safeswim programme and other environmental initiatives 
  • Working collaboratively with regulators, mana whenua, consultants, and internal teams 
  • Supporting programmes and projects aimed at reducing overflows and improving environmental outcomes

You’re someone who enjoys working with data and has a genuine passion for environmental outcomes. You bring a balanced approach—analytical, detail-focused, and able to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. 
 

You’ll bring: 

  • A Bachelor (Honours) degree or higher in Data Management, Environmental Science, or a related discipline 

  • At least 3 years’ experience in data analysis, environmental science, or compliance 

  • Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail 

  • The ability to interpret data and translate insights into practical outcomes 

  • Confidence communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences 

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
