Job description

As a Global Delegate Data Protection Officer – Monitoring, you will focus on managing and monitoring the data protection risks arising from processing of personal data as well as record retention risks across ING. Personal data protection is a key compliance risk for the bank and requires strong oversight of technology-enabled data processing, as well as effective monitoring of records of processing activities and privacy assessments across ING.

The team

You will be part of Global Data Protection Compliance, a key and rapidly evolving risk domain with increasing regulatory, supervisory, and internal focus. Data protection plays a central role in ING’s digital strategy and is closely linked to technology-driven data ecosystems, including cloud, advanced analytics, automation, and GenAI. The Global Data Protection Compliance team is based in Amsterdam and Bucharest and we actively promote diversity in all its forms.

Roles and responsibilities

As Global Delegate Data Protection Officer – Monitoring, you will:

  • Strengthen and continuously improve data privacy, AI and record retention and deletion knowledge and awareness by defining, implementing, and conducting targeted training.

  • Proactively monitor and challenge global and local processing activities, processes, and practices to identify actual or potential breaches of applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards across the markets in which ING operates to keep ING within risk appetite.

  • Define and continuously improve the design and execution of data protection monitoring activities and introduce new (AI) technology to enhance monitoring quality and efficiency.

  • Identify and drive improvements to the data protection framework and (AI) technology, including the adoption of best practices, based on insights from monitoring activities, helping ING strengthen and maintain compliance.

  • Act as second line of defense for data protection and record retention risks and controls within the ING support functions.

  • Track the remediation and closure of data protection risks, MIAs, and issues, including those linked to globally scoped projects and programs.

  • Contribute to global functional oversight, interacting with ING entities globally on monitoring and reporting activities.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary and virtual risk and project teams and contribute to global deep-dive reviews and other Data Protection Compliance initiatives.

Your technical skills and track record

  • You have 5+ years of professional experience in data protection, (IT) audit, and/or (IT or privacy) law

  • You have deep knowledge on GDPR and privacy monitoring

  • Demonstrated track record in designing and delivering data privacy training and awareness initiatives to diverse stakeholder groups (including senior management, 1st line, and IT), ensuring clear understanding of policy requirements, monitoring and control expectations.

  • You have a strong understanding of, and practical experience with, OneTrust.

  • Affinity with technology, tooling, and AI-related developments, and the ability to connect these topics to GDPR.

  • You can translate regulatory requirements into risk insights, practical controls and monitoring plans.

  • You collaborate effectively across functions, teams, and geographies.

  • You hold a university degree, or bring equivalent experience, in Law,  Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.

  • You have excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
