Summary:
The Lincoln Scholars Program and Political Theory Institute are hosting a free week-long college experience seminar for high school students at American University. Through faculty-led seminars, study sessions, field trips, and guest lectures, students will explore major debates, texts, and themes in the American political tradition while gaining firsthand experience with college-level learning.
The Summer Civics Institute Resident Teaching Assistant will supervise all students in the dormitories during the week of June 21 - 28, 2026. They will receive housing during this week. They will also act as a teaching assistant attending morning class sessions run by professors, overseeing afternoon study sessions, advising, and generally helping with the program as needed, including setting up rooms and food, coordinating transportation, etc.
Essential Functions:
1.) Program Support
Attend all class sessions.
Oversee all afternoon study sessions and field trips.
Set up rooms and food, coordinating transportation when necessary.
Assisting with the program when necessary.
2.) Community Engagement
Serve as the leader in developing and facilitating an environment on the floor and in the Residence Hall in which students can grow and learn socially as well as academically.
Plan and implement learning and engagement opportunities for residents.
Advise and refer their residents to the program’s resources to aid in supporting their academic, personal, and social well-being.
3.) Emergency Response
Reach out to University Conferences & Guest Staff in the event of an emergency.
4.) Additional Duties as Assigned
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-time.
25 hours per week.
Temporary position.
This position is a week-long, running during the week of June 21 - 28, 2026.
Continuation of the program/position is contingent upon external funding.
Salary Range:
$22.86 - $23.00 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree.
Less than 1 year of relevant experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's degree.
1 - 3 years of relevant experience.
Travel Required:
Travel required to field trips and other planned events.
