Somnia
Head of Marketing
Salary
Job description
About Somnia
SOMNIA is the Agentic Chain - a hyper-performance L1 operating at an order of magnitude faster than existing networks. We empower builders and traders to create real-time, autonomous, and fully decentralized products, powered by agents, that were previously impossible and cannot be built anywhere else. It’s where the future of Web3 protocols will be built, so we’re facilitating a new wave of on-chain applications from DEX to Prediction Protocols and much, much more.
Somnia is being developed by Somnia Foundation backed by Improbable https://www.improbable.io/, a British tech Unicorn +++ that has been at the forefront of building virtual worlds for over a decade. Somnia received initial funding from MSquared https://www.msquared.io/, which raised $150 million https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20220407005101/en/Improbable-Raises-US150m-to-Establish-M%C2%B2-MSquared-a-Metaverse-Network-and-Ecosystem-Powered-by-Its-Morpheus-Technology from a16z crypto, SoftBank, Mirana Ventures, CMT Digital, and SIG.
About the Role
We're hiring a Head of Marketing to own the marketing engine across the entire Somnia ecosystem: the L1 itself plus every product built on top, including (but not limited to) DreamDEX, Prophecy, and the upcoming products. This is the most senior marketing role at Somnia. You'll report directly to the CEO, sit on the leadership team, and be responsible for turning a technically extraordinary L1 into the most actively used and recognized agentic chain.
You'll lead a globally distributed marketing function spanning product marketing, social, KOLs, events, paid media, and comms, and shape how it operates around the products in the Somnia ecosystem. Your job is to make the team ship faster, sharper, and with measurable impact.
This is a player-coach role. You'll write the strategy, set the targets, and run the operating cadence, but you'll also redline the launch brief, kill the bad campaign, and own the narrative yourself when it matters. The team is small enough that you ship work, not just coordinate it.
You've done this before in Web3. You've taken at least one web3 product from "nobody's heard of us" to category-defining, and you know exactly what breaks at each stage. You're allergic to vanity metrics, fluent in on-chain data, and you understand that in this market a single great launch beats a quarter of consistent posting.
If you want to build the marketing org that defines what an Agentic L1 looks like in market, and you've got the scars to do it, let's talk.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy and operating model
- Own the end-to-end marketing strategy across Somnia L1 and the products built on top, starting with DreamDEX and Prophecy. Sequence launches and campaigns so each beat compounds the last.
- Shape the marketing operating model so the team is structured around products and outcomes - the right mix of product marketing, content, design, paid, KOLs, community, events, and dev rel firing in coordination behind each launch.
- Set the weekly operating rhythm: targets, reviews, post-mortems. Kill what isn't working fast; double down on what is.
Growth and user acquisition
- Own the growth numbers. Set the targets with the CEO and product leads, then deliver them.
- Run the full acquisition stack: organic content engines, paid (when unit economics open the gate), KOL programs, season campaigns, referral loops, and partner-led growth.
- Build the analytics layer that turns on-chain and community data into prioritization for the team and outreach assets for BD.
Positioning, narrative and brand
- Own the master Somnia narrative: what an Agentic L1 actually means, the proof points, the competitive frame. Cascade it into each product's positioning so sub-brands strengthen the master.
- Define and protect the visual identity, tone of voice, and brand governance across every team and channel.
- Lead positioning and messaging for every launch in the Somnia ecosystem.
Retention, community and ecosystem
- Own retention across the product stack. Design incentive structures (points, seasons, rewards, anti-farming mechanics) that reward genuine engagement and align with token distribution discipline.
- Set the strategy for Discord, Telegram, X, and ecosystem comms, including sentiment monitoring, event programs, KOL bench management, and ecosystem partner activations.
- Build the developer marketing track as a durable growth channel: hackathons, build-a-thons, dev content, ecosystem grants narrative.
Comms, PR and events
- Own earned media strategy and tier-1 editorial relationships across crypto and mainstream tech. Partner with the CEO and comms function on thought leadership and corporate narrative.
- Lead the global events calendar (Token2049, Devcon, EthCC, Consensus, prediction/DeFi-specific summits): planning, budgeting, KOL/builder/MM activation, and measurable post-event pipeline.
- Run announcement strategy and crisis comms playbooks across the ecosystem.
Cross-functional leadership
- Partner with the product leads for DreamDEX, Prophecy, and future products as their commercial counterpart, holding them honest on positioning, GTM readiness, and growth targets.
- Work cross-functionally with BD on partner pipeline, with Product on retention loops and feature narrative, with Finance on marketing P&L and incentive treasury, with Legal on regulatory comms.
- Manage agency relationships, KOL contracts, and external creative partners.
Requirements
YOU NEED TO HAVE
- 8+ years in marketing, with at least 3 in a leadership role in a crypto-native company (L1, L2, exchange, wallet, major DeFi protocol, or blockchain infrastructure). Non-web3 candidates will not be considered for this role.
- A track record taking at least one Web3 product from early proof to category leadership: measurable in users, volume, share of voice, and brand equity. Be ready to talk through the bets, the numbers, and what you'd do differently.
- End-to-end ownership of the consumer crypto funnel: acquisition, activation, retention, and monetization, with hands-on experience running paid, organic, KOL, and community channels (not just managing people who run them).
- Genuine fluency in the competitive landscape across L1s, prediction markets, DEXs, and AI-x-crypto. You know how industry incumbents position themselves, and where the white space sits.
- A history of building and leading globally distributed marketing teams across product marketing, social, KOLs, events, paid media, comms & more.
- Analytical fluency. Comfortable with quantitative approaches, you frame everything around hypotheses and read the data yourself.
- Player-coach operating style. Strategic when needed, hands-on by default. Comfortable redlining a thread before a launch.
- Excellent written and spoken English. Confident as an external voice in writing, on stages, and on podcasts when the role calls for it.
YOU WILL STAND OUT IF YOU HAVE
- Marketed an AI-native or agentic product, in web3 or in the broader AI infrastructure space.
- Direct experience marketing a prediction market, perps DEX, or on-chain derivatives venue.
- Owned a token launch end-to-end: TGE, points program, season mechanics, airdrop design & more.
- Marketed to developers and technical audiences at scale (dev rel programs, hackathons, technical content).
- A public footprint in crypto (CT, Mirror, podcasts, conference talks) that signals fluency with the audience you'll be marketing to.
- Enterprise / institutional BD marketing experience: packaging technical proof into sales collateral for protocol partners and market makers.
