Overview

***This position is physically located in Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP***

The Dentist provides comprehensive oral healthcare in a hospital, clinic, or deployed setting. Responsibilities include preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic dental services, patient education, and management of dental emergencies. The Dentist ensures the delivery of high-quality oral care, compliance with clinical standards, and coordination with medical and ancillary services.

  • Perform preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic dental procedures.
  • Conduct oral examinations, interpret x-rays, and develop treatment plans.
  • Administer local anesthesia and sedation as appropriate for procedures.
  • Provide restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and surgical dental care.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, disease prevention, and post-procedure care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records, including electronic documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with medical, nursing, and allied health personnel to coordinate patient care.
  • Manage dental emergencies in a deployed or operational environment.
  • Maintain dental equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness for all procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. Use the guide below to determine education and experience for this position.
  • Education:
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited dental school.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 10 years of professional clinical practice as a licensed dentist.
  • Licensure / Registration:
  • Current, active, unrestricted dental license in at least one U.S. state, DC, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
  • Certification:
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or Red Cross approved program.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred if providing care in emergencies or hospital settings.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Maintain licensure, BCLS certification, and any specialty certifications for the duration of employment.
  • Meet all medical, security, credentialing, and deployment requirements.
  • Ability to operate independently in deployed, austere, or resource-limited environments.
  • Some On-call may apply.
  • Skills:
  • Proficiency in clinical dental procedures, radiology, and patient management.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology, infection control, and patient safety standards.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to provide care in austere, deployed, or resource-limited settings.
  • Skilled in-patient education and collaborative care with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Working Conditions:
  • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
  • The worker is subject to vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
