Detailed Overview
Reporting to the Site Coordinator or designate and in a matrix to the MRI Practice Specialist, the Clinical Educator/Instructor, MRI practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as well as utilizing a client and family centered care model and the vision and values of the department within Fraser Health (FH).
The Clinical Educator/Instructor works in a team-based environment and is responsible for the clinical education experience of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology students and staff. Duties include instructing students/staff in technical and diagnostic procedures, implementing site-based education program(s) including an evaluation system to evaluate student and staff progress during clinical training, determining clinical competencies/education for staff/students, conducting in-services, acting as a liaison between the academic institutions and hospital personnel and maintaining various training records and manuals. Performs technical procedures and may be required to work at more than one location within an assigned geographical area, as required.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates and implements the MRI Tech student and staff clinical education program at designated site(s) by developing instructional materials and competencies, assigning student rotations, setting goals and objectives for each rotation, and creating clinical checklists. Collaborates with staff to align instruction schedules and ensure comprehensive clinical exposure, in accordance with CAMRT clinical experience requirements.
- Accountable for the clinical instruction and implementation of the education program for MRI Tech students and staff at designated site(s) in technical and diagnostic procedures, including MRI imaging and processing techniques. Responsibilities include identifying instructional topics in line with accreditation standards and curriculum guidelines, developing presentations, demonstrating procedures, observing student performance, and providing feedback to ensure compliance with departmental and program standards.
- Evaluates student/staff progress during clinical training by implementing an evaluation system, setting up evaluation criteria for specified tasks, determining successful completion of tasks, and providing feedback to ensure training goals and objectives are met.
- Assists students/staff to meet evaluation standards by providing counseling and guidance in matters related to education and study skills, and developing remedial training programs. Maintains student /staff records including evaluations/progress reports, examination results, grade assessments, clinical competency tests and attendance information.
- Supports the development and delivery of student and staff orientation programs by collaborating with the MRI Practice Specialist and Supervisor to identify competencies, protocols, workflows, and requirements. Creates orientation checklists and compiles information packages to ensure comprehensive onboarding. Conducts orientations to promote understanding of departmental policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
- Acts as a liaison among departmental staff, radiologists, students, hospital personnel, and academic institutions to exchange information on student progress and program requirements. Ensures students are supervised by qualified technologists and that clinical training standards are upheld. Provides staff with in-services, feedback, and updates on student training and evaluation processes.
- Identifies departmental Quality Improvements and efficiencies required in designated site(s) MRI. Prepares and reviews data for quality projects. Prepares the education materials with guidance of the MRI Practice Specialist, presentations and training for rolling out new quality initiatives, new procedures and protocols. Collaborates with clinical instructors, academic institutions, and professional associations on training initiatives, accreditation, and student/staff progress. Submits required documentation, shares and receives progress reports, and attends liaison and committee meetings. Participates in professional and academic committees as assigned.
- Maintains clinical competency by performing technical duties such as patient positioning, procedure explanation, equipment operation, image quality assessment, and data entry into the Radiology Information Systems. Monitors patients during procedures and responds to emergencies per facility protocols, including performing CPR when necessary.
- Maintains awareness of current developments in MRI theory and practice and related equipment and training requirements/accreditation standards reviewing professional literature, attending seminars and training programs, and consulting with peers. Ensures teaching materials are accurate and up to date, and maintains manuals on procedures, protocols, equipment, and training requirements.
- Establishes measurable goals aligned with organizational values by maintaining current clinical knowledge and collaborating with designated supervisor and the MRI Practice Specialist to develop and review progress plans within set timeframes.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training & Experience
Certification with CAMRT (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). A minimum of five (5) years’ recent, related experience including one (1) year experience in a leadership or teaching capacity supplemented by successful completion of recognized clinical instruction courses, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification - Basic Life Support (BCLS) level.
Valid B.C. Driver’s License and use of personal vehicle for business-related purposes, as required.

- Demonstrated knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional associations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with medical imaging equipment.
