Job description

We are looking for a highly experienced AS400 Architect with strong expertise in IBM i (AS/400, iSeries) systems, SYNON (2E), and LANSA technologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, modernizing, and supporting enterprise applications with a strong focus on SYNON and LANSA-based solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture, design, and development of applications on IBM i (AS/400, iSeries) using SYNON (2E) and LANSA (including LANSA for Web).
  • Analyze, enhance, and modernize existing legacy SYNON-based applications.
  • Design and develop LANSA-based web applications and services.
  • Work with RPG (RPG/400, RPG IV, ILE, Free) and CL as supporting technologies.
  • Design and manage DB2/400 database structures using SQL and DDL.
  • Integrate IBM i applications with Java, .NET, APIs, and cloud platforms using REST/SOAP, JSON, XML, FTP/SFTP.
  • Troubleshoot complex application and system issues, including debugging, profiling, and performance tuning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Ensure adherence to IBM i standards, best practices, and governance models.
  • Support ERP domain applications and client-facing technical discussions.
  • Participate in solutioning, technical documentation review, and modernization initiatives. • •

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10–15 years of experience in IBM i / AS400 / iSeries environments.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in SYNON (2E) development and architecture.
  • Extensive experience in LANSA and LANSA for Web development.
  • Proficiency in RPG (RPG/400, RPG IV, ILE, Free) and CL/CLLE.
  • Strong knowledge of DB2/400, SQL, and DDL.
  • Experience with integration technologies (REST/SOAP APIs, JSON, XML, FTP/SFTP).
  • Hands-on experience with debugging, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Experience with version control and change management tools (Aldon, TurnOver, Git).
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile, Scrum, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience working in client-facing technical lead or architect roles. •

Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience modernizing legacy SYNON applications using LANSA.
  • Prior experience in Architect or Technical Lead roles.
  • Exposure to ERP systems and enterprise modernization initiatives.
  • Experience in web enablement and digital transformation on IBM i platforms.
