Job description

We're looking for a skilled, RID-certified ASL Interpreter to support Deaf and hard-of-hearing campers throughout the summer. You'll work directly alongside camp staff and one assigned camper to ensure they have full access to all camp activities, instruction, and community experiences.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time ASL interpretation for camper(s) during daily programming, including hands-on activities, group instruction, and all-camp events
  • Collaborate with Camp Directors and counselors to anticipate and prepare for interpreting needs
  • Maintain professional and confidentiality standards consistent with the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct
  • Support an inclusive, welcoming camp culture for all campers

Pay & Perks

  • We anticipate total compensation for this position to be approximately $45 to $55 per hour.  Exact compensation may vary and will be based on multiple factors, including geography and professional experience.

Schedule & Work Location

  • Part-time, seasonal position: June 29 – July 31, 2026
  • Monday–Friday, 4–6 hour shifts; approximately 25 hours per week
  • Fully onsite work at the Camp Galielo Fremont location: 4760 Thornton Ave, Fremont, CA 94536
  • Current RID certification (CI, CT, NIC, or equivalent) required
  • Experience interpreting for school-age children or in educational settings is strongly preferred
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, and participate in active, hands-on camp programming
  • Positive, flexible, team-oriented attitude — camp is a fast-moving environment
  • Ability to complete all pre-camp tasks, including background checks, state-mandated certifications, electronic onboarding paperwork, and online training prior to the start of camp.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by May 1st, 2026
