Job description
This role is based in our Beijing office.
Role Overview
At Omdia Consulting, we work with the biggest names in enterprise IT, cybersecurity, cloud, AI, and the channel. Our insights, data, and consulting expertise fuel decisions at board level, helping technology providers and their partners navigate complex markets, outpace competitors, and accelerate growth.
We’re seeking a Principal Consultant, based in China, to lead high-value consulting engagements across the region. This role requires a combination of strategic thinking, hands-on delivery, and deep knowledge of Asia Pacific’s technology markets and partner ecosystems. You’ll work directly with executives at global and regional technology vendors, hyperscalers, and channel organisations, delivering outcomes that matter.
Our ideal candidate is a proven consulting leader with the skills, competencies, and regional expertise to expand Omdia’s footprint in APAC while contributing to our global consulting growth strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Lead and deliver complex, multi-country consulting projects – including go-to-market strategy, partner ecosystem development, and competitive positioning.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to client satisfaction, guiding distributed teams of analysts and consultants through the PMO framework.
- Apply Omdia’s consulting methodologies to ensure deliverables are commercially strong, differentiated, and actionable.
- Work closely with Omdia analysts, leveraging their expertise and insight to shape project design, strengthen deliverables, and ensure value-focused outcomes.
- Take accountability for billable utilisation, ensuring deliverables are aligned with client outcomes.
Business Development
- Proactively identify and shape new consulting opportunities with global and regional technology vendors, supporting Omdia’s growth strategy across APAC.
- Build and maintain trusted client relationships, positioning Omdia as a strategic partner to C-suite executives and partner leaders.
- Work closely with sales and account management teams to co-create proposals and pitches that are differentiated, commercially strong, and value focused.
- Demonstrate individual excellence by:
- Leading client conversations that open new opportunities rather than waiting for inbound requests.
- Consistently delivering proposals that are clear, compelling, and aligned to client strategy.
- Acting as the standard-bearer for consulting business development, showing colleagues how to combine commercial acumen with client influence.
- Ensure revenue and utilisation targets are consistently achieved, contributing directly to the enterprise consulting growth strategy.
Thought Leadership and Client Influence
- Represent Omdia at executive briefings, roundtables, and industry events across the region.
- Produce and present whitepapers, strategic content, and executive-level presentations on critical technology and channel trends.
- Act as a role model of individual excellence, consistently demonstrating commercial impact, client influence, and the highest standards of delivery.
Primary competencies
- Strategic Business Insight: Anticipates market shifts, aligns solutions to client strategy, and delivers actionable recommendations.
- Strategic Relationship Management: Builds trust and influence across diverse stakeholders and geographies, from C-level executives to internal analyst teams.
- Delivery and Planning: Crafts and executes data-driven project plans, holding self accountable for quality, timeliness, and measurable outcomes.
- Dynamic Problem Solving: Applies critical thinking and innovation to address client challenges, adapting to the complexity of APAC markets.
- Commercial acumen: Confident in proposal creation, revenue generation, and pipeline development.
- Individual excellence: Demonstrates leadership through influence, sets the benchmark for consulting quality, and operates with autonomy and accountability.
- Communication: Exceptional facilitation skills, both written and verbal. English is essential; multilingual capabilities (e.g., Japanese, Mandarin) are advantageous.
- Mindset: Continuous improvement, entrepreneurial drive, and resilience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Supporting competency
Market and technology fluency: Strong grasp of enterprise IT, cloud, cybersecurity, and channel ecosystems in APAC. Not expected to be an analyst but must be able to engage credibly with C-level clients and partner effectively with Omdia analysts to translate insights into actionable strategies.
