Vital Link, Inc. (VLI) is seeking dependable and hardworking Skilled Laborers to support the construction, maintenance, and modernization of USAF Noise Suppressors, Engine Test Cells, and Hush Houses. This is a 100% travel-based position supporting projects on military installations throughout the United States and, potentially, overseas. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to build a long-term career in the construction and skilled trades industry while supporting mission-critical aerospace and defense projects.
Job Overview The Skilled Laborer provides essential field support to construction crews and skilled trades personnel. This position assists with material handling, site preparation, equipment operation, and general labor activities while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist welders, iron workers, sheet metal workers, mechanical installers, and other skilled trades personnel on construction projects.
- Load, unload, transport, and organize materials, tools, and equipment.
- Operate basic hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Assist with construction site setup, preparation, and cleanup activities.
- Support installation, fabrication, assembly, and construction operations as directed.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
- Follow all company safety policies, project requirements, and customer regulations.
- Identify and report potential safety hazards.
- Work effectively as part of a team to meet project schedules and objectives.
- Follow instructions from supervisors, foremen, and skilled trades personnel.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of construction, industrial, manufacturing, or labor experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, climbing, bending, and working in varying environmental conditions.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Reliable transportation with car Insurance
- Must be willing and able to travel full-time.
- Ability to obtain access to military installations as required.
Travel & Field Benefits This position is ideal for individuals seeking travel opportunities, steady project work, and advancement into the skilled trades.
Travel Benefits Eligible employees may receive
- Daily per diem paid in accordance with current GSA rates while traveling. o 75% of the applicable per diem rate on the first and last day of travel. o 100% of the applicable per diem rate on all full travel days.
- Lodging reimbursement up to current GSA lodging rates.
- Mileage reimbursement between home and assigned work locations at the current federal mileage rate ($0.725 per mile for 2026).
- Travel hourly rate pay for qualifying travel time and distances associated with project assignments. o Up to 4 hours of travel pay for travel up to 250 miles. o Up to 8 hours of travel pay for travel up to 500 miles, per travel day. [JK1.1]
Benefits & Compensation Depending on project location and contract requirements, compensation may include DBA Prevailing Wage and Service Contract Act (SCA) related wage structures.
