Position Summary
Headquartered in Ft. Wayne, IN, Tippmann Construction is recognized as a national leader in refrigerated construction. Under the guidance of the director of estimating, the project estimator plays a critical role in the success of our design-build construction projects by helping shape project strategy, budget, and execution from the earliest stages of development. Working closely with sales, preconstruction, design, and project management teams, the project estimator helps develop accurate cost estimates, identify value-driven solutions, and support winning project proposals. As a key contributor to project planning and decision-making, the project estimator has a direct impact on project profitability, client satisfaction, and company growth. This role offers a significant opportunity to gain exposure to all phases of the construction process and develop a broad understanding of design, engineering, procurement, and construction operations within a collaborative design-build environment. The selected candidate will cross-train with preconstruction, project management, accounting, and procurement teams to ensure a thorough understanding of department interactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Gathering project information, including blueprints, specifications, and other relevant documentation.
- Helping to lead the team through request-for proposal (RFP) responses
- Analyzing project requirements and specifications to identify materials, labor, and other project costs.
- Maintaining a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors to contact for quotes.
- Organizing sub-contractors’ quotations, ensuring quotes meet contract documents and issuing proper documented purchase orders
- Assembling accurate and well-organized estimates and proposals in a timely manner for design-build construction projects
- Providing clear and detailed take-offs for various sized jobs
- Providing and maintaining unit pricing and database for material and labor cost
- Formulating cost break down from estimates and for project progress
- Setting up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
- Documenting take-offs for trade quantities, unit price estimates
- Coordinating daily with design, preconstruction, procurement, and estimating teams

Education
- Bachelor of Science in business administration, accounting, construction management, or related
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a construction estimating role
