Description of Work
The Nematode Assay Laboratory at the Agronomic Division in the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) is pleased to announce the opening of an Agricultural Technician II Lead position. You will work in a fast-paced, team environment as a laboratory technician in the Nematode assay lab. The primary purpose of the position is to receive and prepare samples for microscopic assay, train temporary employees, and coordinate workflow.Duties include:
• Assisting clients with sample submissions
• Checking in laboratory samples
• Using a computer-based Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to log samples
• Extract nematodes from soil, roots, wood chips, foliage, or any other plant material for identification and counting.
The employee must be able to lift trays and boxes weighing up to ~50 lbs., push heavy carts of soil, operate a pallet jack and forklift (training provided), move pallets of sample boxes, stand for extended periods of time, and perform activities involving repetitive motion of hands and wrists.
Normal working hours are 7:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday but occasional overtime may be required to meet established turnaround.
Candidate must pass a fitness for duty test paid for by the department prior to employment.

Recruitment Range-$31,200-$49,000
- Knowledge of good laboratory and safety practices.
- Ability to express technical information clearly, both orally and in writing, when reporting results and explaining procedures to others.
- Ability to sustain attention to detail for long periods of time.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time using a microscope.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
