Optometry | Main ClinicThe Optician works with optometrists and interns to fulfill the patient care service and teaching missions of the professional program. Has direct patient care to assist in the ordering of ophthalmic materials
and recommends frame and lens options based on patient needs. Responsible for accurate measurements and order entry in Compulink. Accurately communicates orders to ophthalmic labs and assists in the tracking and verification of all ophthalmic material orders. Assists in the tracking and verification of all ophthalmic material orders. Dispenses, adjusts, and repairs spectacles. Orders and dispenses contact lenses. Understands and explains eye examination procedures, ophthalmic materials, and fees to patients; answers patient questions based on prescription and medical record information. Communicates with patients and caregivers regarding follow-up and continued care; communicates with other medical providers regarding consultative and co-managed care. Triages phone calls and makes independent decisions regarding scheduling appointments in the appropriate service.
Arranges and verifies insurance coverage. Interprets and understands insurance as it relates to eyewear coverage. Assists with patient arrival, processes routing forms for accurate optometric procedures and diagnostic codes, posts and explains patient fees, collects payments, schedule follow up appointments.
Understands HIPAA and data entry of confidential patient information. Performs Release of Information duties in a secure and confidential manner. Prepares and reviews medical records and prescriptions for completeness and accuracy. Works closely with direct supervisors and other college personnel to meet all business and regulatory requirements and maintain consistent delivery of quality of care. Other optometric and administrative duties as needed. May perform any of these duties in satellite or main campus clinic services.

The Ohio State College of Optometry is hiring Optician 2 positions supporting our expanding network of community-based clinics.
Current and upcoming opportunities include:
- Powell, Ohio – New clinic opening August 2026
- Pickerington, Ohio – Existing clinic with anticipated vacancy beginning December 2026 (training starting by September 2026)
Candidates hired in advance of clinic openings or vacancies may complete paid training at our Main Clinic to ensure a successful transition into their assigned location.
We are open to hiring one or more qualified candidates at this time to support both immediate and future staffing needs across our clinics.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must receive licensure within one year of hire.
- 1 year of relevant experience
Salary: $20.00- $24.00
Salary will be based off of education, experience, internal equity, and budget allowance.
