Job description

The University of Notre Dame Operations, Events, and Safety (UOES) division is currently hiring for full-time Overnight Supervisor within the Morris Inn in our campus Hospitality department. The UOES Division oversees the University's event management, hospitality, and customer service functions, while also supporting student life, academic initiatives, research activities, and annual milestone celebrations.

The Morris Inn is a AAA Four Diamond Hotel and sits at the heart of Notre Dame’s storied campus. It continues to be the “living room” of the University of Notre Dame where guests will find the perfect atmosphere in which to enjoy a business lunch, family gathering, special occasion or a casual meal.

Overnight Supervisor

The Overnight Supervisor is the guardian of the property’s \"first impression,\" leading the custodial team that restores the Morris Inn and McKenna Hall to pristine condition each night. This role requires a disciplined leader who can manage the logistical complexity of cleaning diverse environments—from high-volume restaurant outlets like Rohr’s to professional office spaces in McKenna Hall. By providing active support to the custodial staff and maintaining rigorous quality control, the Overnight Supervisor ensures that guests and University staff arrive each morning to an environment that is spotless, sanitized, and inviting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervise the overnight custodial team, assigning specific zones and tasks to ensure full coverage of the Morris Inn and McKenna Hall.
  • Oversee the comprehensive cleaning of Rohr’s restaurant, Café J, and all public restrooms, ensuring they are guest-ready by early morning.
  • Manage the nightly cleaning of McKenna Hall, including pre function spaces, public corridors, and designated office areas.
  • Verify that all floor care and deep-cleaning initiatives are completed according to the established schedule.
  • Perform detailed inspections of all assigned areas before the conclusion of the shift to ensure no detail is overlooked.
  • Hold team members accountable through real-time feedback and coaching conversations regarding performance and punctuality.
  • Report any maintenance issues or facility damage discovered overnight via HotSOS.
  • Ensure all cleaning chemicals are used correctly and that safety data sheets (SDS) are followed at all times.
  • Conduct nightly \"kick-off\" huddles to communicate priorities and any special requests for the shift.
  • Onboard and train new overnight staff on equipment operation and the specific cleaning standards for high-end hospitality and office environments.
  • Foster a culture of pride and ownership within the overnight crew, emphasizing their critical role in the guest experience.
  • Complete nightly shift reports for the BOH Operations Managers, detailing completed tasks and any outstanding issues.
  • Ensure all custodial closets are organized and stocked for the following shift.
  • Coordinate a seamless hand-off with the early morning housekeeping and public space teams.

  • Capable of managing time effectively with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Ability to maintain a standing position for extended periods of time (up to 6 hours at a time)
