You'll be part of an innovative team advancing our mission to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. As the site Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist, you'll lead the facility EHS efforts, provide expert guidance and leadership in environmental health, safety, and sustainability programs across the organization. You'll collaborate with site-based teams at all levels to develop and implement comprehensive EHS management systems, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and create a strong safety-focused culture.  You will collaborate with, be supported by and learn from EHS colleagues around the globe.  This role combines strategic thinking with practical problem-solving to protect our employees, environment, and facilities while ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence. 

 

A Day in the Life: 

  • Manages the Environmental, Health and Safety program at the Greenfield facility.   
  • Ensures that all licensing, permitting, or other environmental, health or safety requirements are met at assigned site and takes appropriate actions to ensure that any non-compliance issues are resolved.   Responds to EHS-related regulatory inspections and/or inquiries.  
  • Maintains up to date knowledge and ensures that programs meet federal, state, and local requirements (e.g, IOSHA, IDEM, DOT, etc.), as well as company EHS requirements.  Develops and updates all environmental, health and safety related programs r the Greenfield laboratory facility.   
  • Updates site management on new or changed regulations in a timely manner.  Pro-actively makes recommendations on feasible solutions and alternatives that ensure compliance.  
  • Responds to inquiries from employees and leaders.   
  • Coordinates safe removal and disposal of hazardous/biological waste from facility on a regular basis.  Maintains and monitors waste manifest system.  Completes reporting forms and documents for all required regulatory agencies.   Monitors hazardous waste removal vendors and may assist in consolidating hazardous wastes. 
  • Develops and conducts environmental, health and safety training programs, including refresher trainings as required by regulations.    
  • May lead the Environmental, Health & Safety committees, act as Chemical Hygiene Officer, Workers Comp coordinator, Spill Response Team leader, Emergency Action Plan coordinator, etc,  
  • Seeks guidance and support from senior EHS leaders, as needed. Performs periodic safety inspections.  

Keys to Success: 

Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification. Preferred Fields of Study: Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or related technical field 

 

Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 5 years).Laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotech, clinical research, healthcare, or regulated manufacturing environment preferred.” 

 

In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • In-depth knowledge of IOSHA, IDEM, DOT and other applicable regulations, including hazardous/infectious waste regulations, chemical/biological safety regulations.  
  • Experience implementing and maintaining EHS programs (e.g., Chemical Hygiene, PPE, Respiratory Protection, Hazard Communication, Ergonomics, etc.) 
  • Experience with emergency response and business continuity planning 
  • Ability to interact successfully with the site leadership team.  
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to provide effective training 
  • Solid problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong judgment and business acumen 
  • Strong computer skillsincluding ability to utilize an EHS Management Systems application.
