FleetPride is seeking a strategic and operationally focused accounting leader to serve as Senior Director, Controller, reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer. This role will lead the Company’s operational accounting, corporate accounting, financial reporting, and other related accounting and compliance functions while building a high-performing team capable of supporting a complex, multi-location retail, service and wholesale businesses.
This leader will oversee the integrity and scalability of FleetPride’s accounting processes across a nationwide footprint of locations while ensuring accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting executive who combines deep technical expertise with operational leadership capability. This individual will play a critical role in driving operational excellence, strengthening accounting discipline, and building a performance-oriented culture across the accounting organization.
The Senior Director, Controller will partner closely with Finance leadership and operational teams to ensure accounting processes effectively support the scale, complexity, and growth of the business
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Finance & Operational Partnership
- Serve as a strategic finance partner to operations leadership, providing insights that improve decision-making across the Company’s nationwide branch and distribution network.
- Develop and implement enhanced analytics and reporting capabilities to monitor key operational drivers including inventory trends, cost of goods sold, margin performance, and working capital efficiency.
- Partner with operations, supply chain, and finance leaders to proactively identify and address operational issues impacting financial performance.
- Provide leadership in the development of reporting and analytics that improve visibility into inventory performance, inventory turns, obsolescence, shrinkage, and branch-level profitability.
- Drive greater transparency and accountability across the organization by translating financial data into actionable insights for operational leaders.
- Support leadership in identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, working capital management, and inventory productivity.
Operational Accounting Leadership
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of operational transactions related to inventory, cost of goods sold, branch operations, and other high-volume operational activities.
- Establish strong processes and controls to support the accounting and financial reporting of inventory and other operational activities.
- Drive standardization and consistency across accounting processes supporting a high-volume operational environment.
- Partner closely with operational leaders to ensure alignment between financial reporting and operational activity.
Corporate Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP, management reporting requirements and lender-based requirements.
- Lead corporate accounting activities including debt, equity, expense accruals, fixed assets, capital expenditures, leases, and other corporate financial processes.
- Ensure the integrity of the Company’s consolidated financial results and oversee the close process across all accounting teams.
- Support technical accounting matters, including review and/or writing of technical memos, accounting policy development, implementation, and adherence thereto, and implementation of new accounting standards.
- Coordinate closely with the Company’s external auditors and internal stakeholders to support annual audits and financial reporting requirements. Capital Expenditure & Fixed Asset Governance
- Provide leadership over capital expenditure accounting and reporting processes supporting investments across the Company’s operational footprint.
- Ensure accurate capitalization, asset tracking, and depreciation processes in accordance with accounting policy.
- Partner with Finance and operational leaders to improve discipline and transparency around capital investment tracking and reporting.
- Develop reporting capabilities that provide leadership visibility into capital deployment, asset utilization, and return on investment.
Accounting Operations & Close Excellence
- Provide leadership and oversight of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Drive improvements in close timelines, process standardization, and reconciliation discipline across accounting teams.
- Strengthen balance sheet governance and improve transparency around key operational accounting balances including inventory and accruals.
- Implement scalable processes capable of supporting continued company growth and operational complexity.
- Implement and develop foundational control compliance framework and discipline in support of the process excellence.
Systems, Data & Process Transformation
- Lead initiatives to modernize accounting processes through automation, improved systems utilization, and enhanced reporting capabilities.
- Partner with Finance, IT, and cross-functional leaders to enhance accounting system functionality and improve financial data accessibility through reporting initiatives and solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, scalability, and improved financial transparency.
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead and develop a large accounting organization supporting operational and corporate accounting functions.
- Build a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement across the accounting organization.
- Develop and mentor emerging leaders while strengthening performance management and team development practices.
- Serve as a key member of the accounting leadership team and a trusted partner to the Chief Accounting Officer.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Master’s in Accounting or Business Administration preferred
- CPA required
- 15+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience with at least 10 years of experience leading teams and working on accounting or finance shared service transformation efforts and/or M&A integrations
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Experience with ERPs required; experience with AS400, Cognos / TM1, SQL and PowerBI considered a plus
- Experience leading accounting teams within companies exceeding $500M in revenue
- Experience managing large teams and complex accounting organizations
- Strong experience in distribution, retail, manufacturing, or other inventory-intensive industries
- Experience supporting multi-location operating environments, including Canada
- Experience driving operational process improvement within accounting functions
- Blend of public accounting and corporate accounting leadership experience preferred
- Demonstrated mergers and acquisitions accounting and financial reporting experience
- Experience with cloud-based financial reporting solutions (e.g., ActiveDisclosure, Workiva)
- Experience with lease accounting software (e.g., LeaseAccelerator, Virtual Lease)

- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities
