Job description

Omio is looking for a dynamic and commercially driven General Manager to lead our Japan business and unlock the full potential of one of the world’s most exciting travel markets.

As our first in-country senior leader, you will be the face of Omio in Japan:  building the partnerships, brand presence and commercial momentum needed to turn early traction into lasting market leadership.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a high-growth business from the ground up, combining entrepreneurial ambition with the institutional backing of a global travel platform.

Responsibilities:

Commercial Partnerships & Supply

  • Serve as the primary relationship owner for all strategic suppliers in Japan, cultivating long-term trust and preferential terms through frequent executive-level engagement

  • Identify and pursue new partnership opportunities across travel, tourism and adjacent ecosystems to diversify Omio’s distribution and revenue streams

  • Work closely with the global supply team to ensure partner onboarding, content quality and inventory accuracy meet Omio’s standards

  • Own and grow Omio’s network of local supply partners, negotiating and closing commercial agreements that strengthen content depth and exclusivity

Market Development & Growth through marketing leaderships

  • Define and execute the marketing roadmap for Japan, setting ambitious revenue and market-share targets aligned with Omio’s global expansion strategy

  • Lead localised marketing and brand-building initiatives that drive customer acquisition, retention and organic growth, working hand-in-hand with Omio’s central marketing team

  • Translate consumer and competitive insights into product and pricing recommendations, advocating for Japan-specific features with global product and engineering stakeholders

  • Establish scalable go-to-market motions that amplify reach beyond direct channels

Stakeholder Relations & Representation

  • Act as Omio’s senior representative with regulators, industry bodies and government agencies, ensuring compliance and proactive relationship management

  • Build Omio’s brand equity with media, investors and ecosystem players, positioning the company as a credible and committed long-term participant in the Japanese market

  • Report directly to Omio’s global leadership, providing clear and data-driven updates on performance, risks and opportunities

Operations management

  • Recruit, develop and inspire a high-performing local team as the business scales, instilling a culture of ownership, excellence and customer obsession

  • Oversee day-to-day country operations including budget management, forecasting and reporting in partnership with Omio’s finance and operations teams

  • Define and track OKRs for the Japan market, surfacing actionable insights to accelerate growth and address operational gaps

  • 8+ years’ experience in senior commercial, business development or general management roles, with a strong record of driving revenue growth in Japan

  • Demonstrated success building and monetising strategic partnerships with large enterprises or government-linked organisations in Japan

  • Deep knowledge of the Japanese travel, mobility or e-commerce landscape

  • Native-level Japanese and business-fluent English, with the ability to communicate and present with authority at executive and board level in both languages

  • Entrepreneurial leader who thrives in ambiguity, combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, and is energised by building something from scratch

  • Strong commercial and analytical acumen, with the ability to structure deals, build business cases and translate data into decisions

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and cultural fluency, able to bridge between Omio’s global team and Japanese business culture

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is a strong plus
