About the Role 


The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for accurate scheduling of surgeries as directed by the physician; including ensuring that all patient demographic information is obtained correctly at the time of the surgery.  These services include surgery scheduling at various hospitals and surgical centers. The Surgery Scheduler serves as a liaison between the hospital, patient and physician.   

 

What You’ll Be Doing 

 

o   Schedule patients accurately and efficiently for any and all surgical procedures requested by physicians.  This includes scheduling pre- and post-operative appointments and testing as well as obtaining medical clearances, etc. 

o   Responsible for providing patients with all necessary information regarding their procedure. This includes, but is not limited to, special diet or preparation instructions, general insurance information, surgery and appointment dates, arrival times, and locations, through verbal, written and/ or electronic communication. This may also include the use of interpreter services or making other arrangements as needed.

 

o   Communicates effectively and in a friendly manner with patients, other staff and physicians as well as outside sources. 

o   Organizes work for efficiency and problem solving as related to surgery scheduling and its impact on physicians and clinical office. 

o   Collaborate with other schedulers to maximize utilization and meet department goals.

o   Serve as contact for hospitals, surgery centers and physicians regarding schedules, procedures, or concerns while sharing information and working with manager, supervisor, co-schedulers and physicians.  

o   Responsible for being up-to-date on all insurance requirements and following all guidelines, requesting prior authorizations and verifying insurance benefits are reviewed. 

o   Responsible for documenting scheduled surgeries in Medent chart messages and Surgical Book Planner.  Information to be included: surgery details, location, time and case length; confirmations with patients and facility, notification dates and names of scheduling contacts or confirmation numbers, prep and special instructions to be given including confirmation of equipment reps or techs needed for the surgical procedure; pretesting and clearance appointment locations, provider contact information and requested tests

o   Responsible for verifying all demographic information including insurance entered into Medent as well as checking patient’s insurance has been queried for pre-certification, prior authorizations or referrals as needed for surgery.

o   Ensures that all scheduled clearance and tests are completed results received and sent for surgical charts as required by each hospital or surgery center.

o   Responsible for rescheduling and cancelling surgery and post-op appointments in a way which minimizes any inconveniences to the patient, including notification to the correct hospital or surgery center. 

o   Responsible for maintaining effective and accurate daily physician surgery schedules. 

o   Responsible for maintaining knowledge about urological procedures and facility requirements.

o   Represents U.S Urology Partners in a professional manner related to appearance, communication and the maintenance of patient confidentiality. 

o   Other duties as assigned. 

 

What We Expect from You 

  • High School Graduate or GED 
  • Minimum of three years surgery scheduling experience 
  • Medical Assistant Certification or Certified Nursing Assistant Preferred  

 

 

Reasoning Ability   

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

 

Computer Skills 

 To perform this job successfully, an individual should have thorough knowledge in computer information systems.

Salary Range: Please note that the hourly range for this position will vary based on experience level, education and geographical location.

$15.00 - $22.00 / hour
