Job description

The Business Controller is a front-office analytical role supporting the Chief Operating Officer in financial performance monitoring, business analysis, and strategic initiatives across ship management operations. The role will provide structured financial insights on fleet performance, cost control, and operational efficiency, while supporting selected vessel-related finance activities and cross-functional projects.

Principals Roles & Responsibilities

A. Financial Performance Monitoring

  • Support monitoring of fleet financial performance, including OPEX, budgets, and variances
  • Assist in preparing monthly and ad-hoc financial reports for senior management
  • Analyse cost trends and highlight risks and improvement opportunities

B. Business Analysis & Management Reporting

  • Develop dashboards and analytical reports to support decision-making
  • Prepare presentations and analysis for COO and senior leadership
  • Support benchmarking and performance tracking across fleets

C. Support to Fleet / Operational Teams

  • Provide financial analysis support to selected fleet/technical teams
  • Assist in reporting, data validation, and issue resolution
  • Support handover of responsibilities previously managed within the team

D. Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Monitor budget vs. actual performance and highlight deviations
  • Assist in identifying cost optimisation opportunities

E. Strategic & Front Office Projects

  • Support COO office on cross-functional initiatives and transformation projects
  • Prepare business cases, financial models, and scenario analysis
  • Contribute to operational and financial improvement initiatives

F. Process Improvement & Digitalisation

  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency and data quality
  • Support development of dashboards and automation tools
  • Contribute to standardisation of reporting practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Shipping/Maritime studies
  • Fresh graduate or up to 1 - 2 years of experience
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
  • Commercial awareness and business curiosity
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Proactive and self-driven
  • Ability to work across functions (Finance, Technical, Operations)
  • Ability to travel independently world wide on short notice.
