The Local Business Advisor (LBA) is responsible for building and maintaining strong connections with a selection of our existing small business members, acting as a liaison to understand their needs, ensure member satisfaction, and drive growth (loans, deposits, retention) with PenFinancial. This role will own communication with this group of members, identify opportunities, and work with internal experts to deliver solutions, sometimes bridging gaps between business needs and service offerings, as needed, to allow the member to achieve their goals. This role will be responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling the development and maintenance of a profitable, growing and diversified commercial portfolio of new and existing small business members.
The LBA will develop new business opportunities, grow our lending and deposit portfolios, and promote PenFinancial across the Niagara and Haldimand Regions which we serve.
Differentiating Accountabilities:
Business Development & Relationship Management:
- Build strong relationships with small business members and prospective members within the local community.
- Identify opportunities to grow the small business portfolio through proactive outreach, networking, referrals, and community engagement.
- Conduct financial reviews and needs assessments to recommend appropriate business banking products and services.
- Maintain regular contact with members to strengthen relationships and support long-term business success.
- Represent the credit union at community and networking events.
Member Service Excellence:
- Deliver a high standard of personalized service and financial advice.
- Support members with business banking solutions including deposits, payments, digital banking, and lending solutions.
- Manage credit risk by completing annual review of all borrowing accounts in portfolio and manage collection of delinquent or high-risk accounts.
- Resolve member concerns promptly and professionally.
- Educate members on available financial tools and services to improve business efficiency and financial health.
Collaboration & Compliance:
- Work collaboratively with branch teams, commercial banking partners, and internal specialists including wealth advisors.
- Ensure all activities comply with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, anti-money laundering standards, and credit union policies.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation within CRM and banking systems.
- University Degree preferably in a business-related program preferred or an equivalent combination of education (minimum Grade 12) and experience
- Experience working with small businesses at a credit union or other financial institution
- Strong relationship builder; quickly demonstrating the ability to build rapport and trust, approachability, trustworthiness, flexibility and a strong work and service ethic
- Ability to operate with a strong degree of independence
- Demonstrates results orientation in both sales and service
- Solid communication skills – whether written or verbal
- Experience managing a commercial portfolio
- Uses technology to enhance productivity;
- Committed to continuous personal improvement and continuous learning
Target Salary: $65,060
Salary Range: $61,233 - $76,541
Salary will be determined based on skills, experience, education and other qualifications relevant to this position.
