Related Midwest, through its vertically integrated general contracting entity, LR Contracting, is seeking a motivated construction professional to support the management and coordination of construction project delivery for large, complex projects or portfolios of smaller projects, including new construction as well as rehabilitation and preservation work.
The Superintendent is a senior field leadership role responsible for overseeing field operations on large, complex, or multi-phase construction projects. This position leads overall jobsite coordination, drives schedule performance, and proactively manages sequencing, logistics, and risk across multiple trades and scopes. The Superintendent is accountable for field execution outcomes, mentors field staff, and leads coordination efforts to ensure alignment with project objectives, while contributing to higher-level planning and operations decision making.
The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, field operations, preconstruction staff, consultants, and other project stakeholders while contributing to a respectful, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Review and develop a working understanding of all assigned scopes of work as established by the preconstruction and project management teams, and apply that understanding to support field execution, coordination, and sequencing.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of project schedule, milestones and sequencing requirements, proactively supporting schedule performance through coordination, planning and field driven efficiencies.
- Coordinate implementation of design directives, RFIs, and field work orders within assigned areas, ensuring clear communication to subcontractors and proper execution in the field.
- Support jobsite resource management by coordinating tools, equipment, and consumable materials required for assigned scopes, and assist in procurement of incidental field needs.
- Develop and maintain short-interval look-ahead schedules for assigned work areas, including tracking manpower and progress against planned activities.
- Coordinate and oversee daily work activities within assigned scopes, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently and in accordance with contract documents and quality requirements.
- Provide clear daily direction to subcontractors and field personnel proactively addressing coordination challenges productivity concerns, and operational issues.
- Verify field readiness for work activities, including ensuring required documentation, permits and subcontractor compliance are in place prior to the state of work.
- Assist in establishing control points, verifying layout, and supporting field engineering efforts as required to ensure accuracy of installation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date field documentation, including daily reports, RFIs, field work orders, manpower tracking and jobsite records for assigned scopes.
- Promote and reinforce jobsite safety standards by proactively identifying unsafe conditions, participating in safety planning, and supporting compliance among subcontractors and field personnel.
- Participate in jobsite coordination and progress meetings, providing updates on assigned scopes and identifying constraints or issues impacting schedule or quality.
- Interface with inspectors and testing agencies for assigned work areas, ensuring work is prepared for inspections and supporting timely approvals.
- Assist with punch list development and completion for assigned scopes, coordinating subcontractors and verifying work is completed in accordance with project requirements.
- Support development of Assistant Superintendents through knowledge-sharing, field coordination guidance, and day-to-day mentorship.
Qualifications
- 5-12 years of construction experience, including field supervision responsibilities .
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of trade or field supervision experience.
- Proven ability to manage field operations on medium to large scale projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, safety practices, construction ability and coordination across multiple trades.
- Strong construction site leadership experience, including responsibility for field operations, subcontractor coordination, schedule management; quality control, and site logistics on projects of significant size and complexity.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills with ability to effectively coordinate with project management teams, consultants, inspectors, union representatives, trade partners and other stakeholders.
- Experience in using construction management software programs including Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera, MS Project, Procore, and CM Builder.
- OSHA 30-Hour, First Aid / CPR certifications are required. Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) certification preferred.
Compensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. In addition to a competitive base salary, you will be eligible to receive discretionary bonus incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
Anticipated base salary range: $100,000 - $150,000
Actual base salary within the anticipated range will be determined by several components including, but not limited to, the individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and market factors.
