Job Summary
This position is responsible for leading the Transmission Planning and Interconnections functions for NIPSCO's bulk electric system, including development of long-range transmission expansion plans and administration of interconnection and wholesale service agreements. The role partners cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Project Management, Regulatory, and Legal to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective service aligned with corporate strategy. This position ensures compliance with NERC, FERC, and ISO/RTO (e.g., MISO) requirements, supports infrastructure planning and cost recovery efforts, and represents the company in regional planning and industry forums.
Essential Functions
Leads the development of transmission system expansion plans to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective service in compliance with NERC standards and company requirements
Oversees power system studies (e.g., steady-state, stability, short-circuit, and transient analysis) to evaluate system performance, load and generation interconnections, and identify system needs
Directs long-range transmission planning activities aligned with forecasted load growth, generation interconnections, and corporate strategy
Provides technical expertise and planning recommendations to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
Leads negotiation, development, filing, and administration of generation interconnection, wholesale service, and CIAC-related agreements in accordance with FERC requirements
Manages interconnection project portfolio, including study processes, agreement execution, and asset integration activities
Serves as primary point of contact for external customers, developers, and interconnected utilities regarding interconnection requirements and processes
Ensures compliance with applicable NERC, FERC, and ISO/RTO requirements, including support for regulatory filings, audits, and assessments
Works in conjunction with Regulatory, Legal, and FERC Policy teams to support transmission-related filings and cost recovery efforts
Represents the company in regional transmission planning and interconnections processes and industry organizations (e.g., MISO, Reliability First)
Leads, develops, and manages departmental personnel, including establishing goals, priorities, and performance expectations
Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, Project Management, and Commercial teams to support execution of transmission and interconnection strategies
Supports development of capital plans, financial analysis, and tracking of transmission-related investments and wholesale revenue
Required Qualifications for Position
Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering or related technical field from an ABET accredited program
5+ years of experience in electric utility transmission planning, operations planning, interconnections, or relevant areas
Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and cross functional initiatives
Transmission system planning and power system analysis High
NERC reliability standards and compliance requirements High
FERC regulations and ISO/RTO (e.g., MISO) processes High
Generator and load interconnection processes and agreements High
Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
Proven ability to manage complex projects, prioritize work, and influence decision-making
Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills
Valid Driver's License
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
Master's Degree Electrical Engineering
Experience with power system modeling tools (e.g., PSSE, TARA)
Experience with large-load interconnections (e.g., data centers) and generation interconnection agreements
Experience working with MISO or other ISO/RTO planning processes

Salary Range*:
$133,400.00 - $200,100.00*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
