Job Overview
Fairview is seeking an Obstetrician and Gynecologist to serve as Medical Director for Women’s Health within the Women and Children’s Service Line. This is a 1.0 FTE opportunity, consisting of 0.4 administrative FTE and 0.6 clinical FTE. The Medical Director will provide oversight for all Fairview sites that offer women’s health services, and the clinical portion of the role may be based at any of those locations.
The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care and service that meets or exceeds clinical standards and patient satisfaction goals. In partnership with the Ambulatory Director of Women’s Services, this leader will provide medical direction, support the coordination of services and resources, and help drive collaboration across women’s health programs and sites.
This role will also be accountable for supporting productivity, financial, operational, and quality goals within the division. The Medical Director will work closely with the Vice President of Medical Practice and key stakeholders across the organization to advance the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the Women and Children’s Service Line, while fostering alignment with other service lines, domains, and operational partners.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for creating an environment for professional development including ongoing coaching, mentoring, and engagement. Ensure high-level performance, achievement of goals and quality results, through people that report to them. Evaluates performance while setting up development plans throughout the year.
- Regional hospital and FMG leadership meetings: regularly scheduled meetings with Service Line leadership, Site leadership, and Acute Care Quality
- Monthly MPOC meetings for all reporting specialty groups
- A regular meeting (TBD) of all specialty division directors with the Executive Medical Director and other senior FMG leadership or Service Line Leaders
- Serve as a Pillar Lead for the Service Line Strategy Deployment work
- At least monthly one on one with administrative dyad partner – time, format, and location left to the leadership pair
- Lead or participate in committee work as designated by the Executive Team.
- Chair the Acute Care Gyn Committee in partnership with the Service Line Quality Consultant
- Participate in MHealth Fairview Wellbeing Committee, representing the Service Line
- Participate in Care Map Design and implementation work as applicable
- Responsible for compensation issues that arise within your providers, including appeals for recalculations or other special circumstances.
- Responsible for supporting Site Medical Directors with all disciplinary matters, in partnership with HR
- Responsible for supporting Site Medical Directors with recruitment, and involvement in recruitment events
- Responsibility in partnership with the administrative dyad partner over: Budget, Quality Initiatives, productivity, strategic growth, discipline
- In conjunction with the VP of Medical Practice, select, develop, collaborate with, mentor, and oversee local provider leaders in larger specialty cluster.
- Additional leadership meetings and duties as deemed appropriate within the Women and Children’s Service Line
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine or
- Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
- 2 years experience in clinical practice that demonstrates success in quality, clinical variation, practice management, and patient experience
- Previous medical leadership role
- Collaborative work style
- Ability to serve as a diplomat/mentor with strong executive presence
- Strong communication skills, including written and verbal
- Ability to lead and manage broad-based change and development
- Strong interpersonal and team/group dynamic skills. Ability to balance the needs and perspectives of multiple constituencies and assist groups in decision making
- Current unrestricted MN Physician Medical License
- Holds current credentialed status in good standing
- Board eligible/certified by appropriate board
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years experience in relevant medicine practice
- ABOG fellow

Compensation Disclaimer
The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills,knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Positions withthe same min/max are flat rate jobs based on 40 hours/week. Compensation plans based on production can allow for higher pay than the range posted.
