Position Overview
The trauma registrar is responsible for high-quality data with high-quality data entry from the United Health Services trauma program in to the trauma registry. This collection is done through abstraction from patient records, retrospectively and concurrently whenever possible. Other tasks could include data analysis and validation, report generation, research assistance, and meeting various submission requirements to the Department of Health, Bureau of EMS for inclusion in the New York State Trauma Registry and the ACS Trauma Quality Program. The registrar assures the integrity and quality of registry data that are used for prevention, PIPS, and other essential aspects of the trauma program. (See Trauma PIPS plan.) The trauma registrar reports to the Trauma Program Manager, and works closely with the HIM department, Trauma PI nurse, and other trauma team members.Primary Department, Division, or Unit:

Education/Experience
Minimum Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Must complete AIS coding and ATS registrar class within 12 months of hire
Preferred:
- Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management or another allied health field
License/Certification
Minimum Required:
- Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry within 2 years of Hire
Preferred:
- Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry
- RHIT certification
