Job Description:

JOB DUTIES: Assist Fisheries Division staff with the operation of Education Programs included in the events of Community Fishing, Outdoor Discovery, EXPOs, and Schramm Education Center. Additionally, a successful candidate would be expected to develop and implement aquatic education programming that will work to recruit, retain, and reactivate anglers on Nebraska aquatic systems that are consistent with goals and objectives identified in the R3 planning. This position will also be expected to coordinate and facilitate aquatic education events and programs. A required component of this position will also be to support the volunteer youth fishing instructor network through facilitated communications, volunteer incentive programs, and activities related to advisory council meetings. Assistance with equipment and trailer maintenance is expected as well as participation in other related responsibilities assigned by the NGPC fisheries education staff. Please note that this position will work some evenings and weekends as well as require some overnight travel.


 

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, fish or wildlife management or closely related field of biological science. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis. 

Other: A bachelor’s degree from a fisheries, wildlife, environmental or education related program. Additionally, 12 months of experience in wildlife, recreation, fisheries management, or educational programming. Driver’s license is required.


 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of angling and Nebraska freshwater aquatic ecology. An awareness of fisheries management techniques and state regulations pertaining to angling participation. Good communication and public speaking skills; ability to maintain records; ability to operate hand and power tools; ability to operate a pickup with trailer as well as a motorboat and a foundation in understanding educational pathways related to outdoor instructional settings.
