Job Description:

The Advanced Electronics and Photonics (AEP) Core Facility seeks a qualified candidate for an equipment engineering position. The candidate will mainly be focused on repair and augmentation of wet processing equipment including electroplating, photolithography, wet chemical etching, lamination, and panelization equipment. Primary areas of responsibility will include installation support, repairs, and maintenance on our f300mm wafer packaging toolsets as well as existing equipment in the AEP Core. Scope of maintenance needs may increase beyond wet etching equipment to including vacuum processing and metrology equipment as needed. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will interact with individuals responsible for areas such as device physics, deposition, etching, photolithography, packaging, and electrical test to ensure robust wafer packaging processes that meet the precise physical and electrical requirements for our customers.

As part of the AEP Core operations team, you will help to maintain the wafer prep and finishing process areas by supporting operations and increasing equipment up time, responding to production equipment issues, implementing solutions, reducing costs, and improving equipment uptimes. In this position, you will support existing equipment, assist in installing new equipment, and identify potential equipment improvements.

Customer service is an integral part of the maintenance engineer position. The candidate will be interacting directly with a wide variety of students, faculty, and other professionals to provide services as requested. Skill in communicating technical ideas in a positive and patient manner is a must.

This position is funded by DoD and requires candidates to meet the definition of US person as defined in as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 and 15 C.F.R. § 772.1.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform preventative maintenance on AEP Core equipment.

  • Perform repairs on down equipment as needed.

  • Recommend, scope, and assist in the procurement and installation of future equipment into the Core.

  • Cross-train in other areas to provide backup and assistance as needed.

  • Write procedures to help staff and other users safely perform small repairs.

  • Regular activities include ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

  • Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Seven (7) years of engineering or related experience including responsibility for tool maintenance; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

    • Preferred:

      • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the operation and maintenance of electroplating, photolithography, wet chemical etching, lamination, and panelization equipment.

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Computer knowledge used for documentation and analysis.

  • Equipment maintenance experience.

  • Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Demonstrated experience with active matrix TFT processing and amorphous-silicon processes.

  • Demonstrated experience with semiconductor advanced packaging processing.

  • Demonstrated experience with both vacuum and wet processing equipment.

  • Experience with many disciplines including etching, deposition, cleaning, and other thin film processing.

Working Environment:

Regular activities require ability to manage multiple tasks at one time, to be able to prioritize tasks; to manage conflict: to interact in a team environment: and to communicate effectively to exchange accurate information.

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting and cleanroom laboratory subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position, operating computer and other office productivity machinery; required to move a moderate distance to perform work.

  • Frequently moves up to 25 pounds for various needs.

  • Wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as cleanroom suit, lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes and respirator.
