Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is now accepting applications for a Facilities Coordinator for the hospital and wards. Under general supervision, this position oversees equipment operation and coordinates facilities management, including procurement and inventory control in a physically decentralized area. The Facilities Coordinator plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness of the hospital environment, ensuring a safe, sanitary, and well-stocked facility to support patient care and teaching activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of hospital wards, exam rooms, procedure areas, and common spaces to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
- Uphold biosecurity protocols and hospital standards, including waste disposal and infectious disease control measures.
- Manage inventory and stocking of medical, husbandry, and cleaning supplies to ensure continuous availability.
- Hire, train, and oversee student kennel workers, ensuring proper facility upkeep and adherence to hospital procedures.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and minor repairs, reporting issues to appropriate departments.
- Assist in preparing the hospital for inspections, including IACUC, AAHA, and COE accreditation requirements.
- Maintain relationships with vendors for supplies and hospital operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support hospital cleanliness, maintenance, and operational efficiency.
This position will work independently and collaboratively with the Small Animal Clinical Support Manager in the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) and Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS). Although routine hospital business hours are from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm on Monday through Friday, the LVMC is open for patient care 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. The incumbent may be asked to answer urgent questions from student workers supervised and/or meet with employees during off-peak times, weekends and holidays. Likewise, the facilities coordinator will ensure with the assistance of the Clinical Support Manager that staffing needs are met after-hours, on weekends, or holidays to meet the needs of the hospital as necessary.
This position must have a strong knowledge of biosecurity and an understanding of the coordination of services and stocking. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, able to work independently or as a team, maintain confidentiality, and be detail oriented. Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational qualities, and effective oral and written communications are necessary to be successful in this position. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work with and directly supervise the work of others. The ideal candidate will have professional maturity with a leadership style that contributes to a positive culture, and have a compassionate, and empathetic nature towards the clients and patients of the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in veterinary hospital operations or a related clinical environment.
- Familiarity with biosecurity protocols and veterinary sanitation standards.
- Supervisory experience, including hiring, training, and scheduling staff or student workers.
- Experience in facility maintenance, supply inventory management, and hospital preparedness for inspections.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
