Job description

Your Role

Welcome to ZEISS – a company that combines innovation and responsibility! Our corporate divisions are diverse and make a decisive contribution to the strategic orientation and sustainable success of the ZEISS Group. Are you passionate about translating advanced biological concepts into innovative solutions for imaging and analysis? Then leverage your experience to help us unlock the potential of next generation, antibody-based molecular probes for cellular applications. ZEISS is establishing an interdisciplinary team in a dynamic and agile, startup-like environment. The corporate-backed unit will benefit from the ZEISS ecosystem and its deep expertise in optics, imaging, and life sciences. You will play a crucial role in validating and advancing targeted probe technologies towards business success. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is essential and should be complemented with a strong hands-on mentality.

  • Designing and executing cell-based assays to evaluate antibody-based molecular probes (e.g. binding, specificity, functional readouts).

  • Establishing and maintaining relevant cell models (e.g. primary cells, engineered cell lines, 2D/3D models) to mimic target biology.

  • Performing in vitro characterization of probes, including target expression analysis, binding studies, imaging-based readouts, and basic mechanism-of-action investigations.

  • Working closely with synthetic biologists, medicinal chemists, and imaging experts to define performance criteria and translate biological insights into design requirements.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to cell models, assay robustness, and data interpretation. Ensuring high-quality documentation and data integrity, including preparation of study reports and presentations.

  • Keeping up to date of industry and academic developments in targeted probes, and advanced cell models.

Your Profile

  • Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s with equivalent experience) in cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, or a related life science discipline.

  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in cell-based assay development in an academic, biotech, or pharmaceutical setting.

  • Proven expertise in: o Quantitative imaging or high-content readouts (e.g. fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, image-based analysis) o Standard cell biology techniques (e.g. cell culture, transfection, immunostaining, basic molecular biology, CRISPR)

  • Experience with tissue analysis is a strong plus.

  • Ability to design experiments that are both scientifically rigorous and aligned with product-oriented development goals.

  • Excellent communication skills and enjoyment of working in interdisciplinary, cross-functional teams.

  • Analytical, structured, and solution-oriented working methods with a strong hands-on mentality.

  • Very good written and spoken English skills; German and Chinese are a plus.
