Senior Programmer Analyst

The Senior Programmer Analyst performs advanced bioinformatics programming activities to support the statistical and computational requirements of research projects. This role works independently as a lead programmer on selected moderately complex studies and may also serve as a study team member under the direction of a lead programmer on more complex studies.

In addition, the Senior Programmer Analyst provides training and guidance to junior team members and contributes to departmental initiatives that drive operational excellence.

What You'll Do

Project Leadership & Programming

  • Act as the lead programmer on selected studies of moderate complexity, working directly with project team leaders and client representatives to assess and develop project goals and timelines.

  • Assume leadership responsibility as a contributing member of multidisciplinary clinical trial project teams.

  • Communicate actively and effectively with project team members to ensure successful study execution.

  • Independently create, execute, maintain, and validate programs that:

    • Transfer data across multiple data management systems or operating systems.

    • Combine data from various sources and structures.

    • Generate and store summary data.

    • Produce reports and integrate multiple databases.

    • Generate listings, tables, and figures using SAS.

Project Management & Quality

  • Manage and document assignments to ensure timelines are met and deliverables are of high quality.

  • Maintain awareness of contractual obligations and project-specific requirements.

  • Provide quality control review for statistical programming activities.

  • Effectively capture and report biostatistical metrics.

Training & Mentorship

  • Provide training, coaching, and guidance to junior team members.

  • Support team development through knowledge sharing and mentoring activities.

Continuous Improvement & Departmental Support

  • Expand professional knowledge in:

    • Programming technologies and techniques.

    • Clinical trials.

    • The pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

  • Represent the company at industry conferences and professional events.

  • Present and facilitate learning sessions at departmental meetings.

  • Assist in developing training materials and departmental documentation.

  • Contribute to departmental working practice documents, SOPs, and other process improvement initiatives.

  • Support business development and bidding activities as requested.

Education & Experience Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent academic/vocational qualification). Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Years of experience refer to the typical amount of related experience needed to acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the role. Experience should not be the sole factor in employment decisions.

Working Conditions & Environment

  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment.

  • Regular use of standard office and computer equipment.

  • Occasional travel to site locations may be required.

  • Domestic and international travel may be required based on business needs.
