The Procurement Manager – NPI is responsible for the end-to-end execution of procurement activities within New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, ensuring on-time material readiness, effective supplier integration, and achievement of cost, delivery, quality, and risk targets from concept through product launch and early ramp-up.

Working under the leadership of the Senior Manager Procurement / NPI, this role translates NPI sourcing strategies into consistent, measurable, and results-driven execution, ensuring that supplier selection, early supplier engagement, efficient prototype sourcing, and industrialization activities are performed with speed, quality, and alignment to business objectives within cross-functional project teams.

The role acts as the operational procurement lead in NPI programs, operates with strong execution discipline, provides data-driven recommendations, and proactively manages risks.

Scale of Responsibilities

  • Act as the single point of contact for all procurement topics within assigned NPI project teams.
  • Own end-to-end procurement execution for assigned NPI projects (concept → launch → ramp-up)
  • Ensure on-time material readiness for prototypes, pilot builds, and production ramp-up
  • Execute sourcing strategies in alignment with Category Management and NPI leadership
  • Deliver against project procurement objectives, including cost targets, supplier readiness, delivery performance, and risk mitigation
  • Prepare data-driven recommendations for supplier selection and make-or-buy decisions to support leadership decision-making
  • Track execution progress, ensure early risk identification, and drive mitigation actions
  • Ensure alignment with procurement processes and NPI governance

Technical Responsibilities

Supplier & Sourcing Execution

  • Translate product requirements into supplier capability needs and sourcing actions
  • Ensure early supplier selection and onboarding from initial development phases in alignment with defined sourcing strategies
  • Own and track compliance with preferred supplier strategies from project start, including tracking % of spend with preferred suppliers
  • Drive early supplier involvement (ESI) to support design-for-cost, manufacturability, and supplier readiness
  • Support R&D by sourcing and ordering prototype materials in early development phases to enable optimal supplier selection and fast iteration cycles

Cost & Price Management

  • Execute should-costing, cost tracking, and benchmarking to meet target cost
  • Develop and maintain a price roadmap (up to 3 years post-launch) for key suppliers and components

Risk Management

  • Identify, track, and mitigate supply chain risks at project level
  • Ensure early identification and escalation of critical risks (cost, delivery, supplier readiness, sole sources)
  • Drive mitigation actions and maintain transparency within project teams

KPI Ownership

  • Own, track, and manage NPI procurement KPIs, including material readiness, cost vs. target, supplier readiness and performance, risk status, and preferred supplier compliance (%)

Supplier Performance & Lifecycle Ownership

  • Own supplier performance at project level and during early ramp-up phase (up to 6 months post-launch)
  • Ensure smooth transition to serial production and structured handover to operational procurement

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, quality, and procurement requirements

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Act as the procurement lead within assigned NPI project teams
  • Drive day-to-day alignment with R&D, Engineering, and Program Management
  • Escalate key risks, supplier issues, and trade-offs to NPI leadership
  • Support and ensure the consistent application of standard NPI processes, tools, and governance
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of NPI execution
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders

How will you get here?

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business Logistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Experience

  • 7+ years of procurement, sourcing, or supply chain experience
  • Proven experience in NPI, product development, or project sourcing environments
  • Experience working in cross-functional, technical project teams
  • Experience with supplier selection, qualification, and industrialization

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong procurement and sourcing expertise (supplier selection, negotiation, cost analysis)
  • Solid understanding of NPI processes and product lifecycle management
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Strong project management and execution discipline
  • Effective stakeholder management and influencing skills in a matrix organization
  • Analytical mindset with structured problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and sourcing tools

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $112,500.00–$168,750.00.
